Oregon’s Phi Delta Theta Just Got The Boot For At Least Two Years
Unfortunately, the Greek community has lost yet another chapter.
The University of Oregon announced yesterday that their Phi Delta Theta chapter would be suspended from official operations on campus for at least two years following an investigation into an incident at a BBQ. The incident in question allegedly occurred earlier this year.
From Daily Emerald:
A barbecue that led to an under-aged new member of Phi Delta Theta drinking alcohol with a mixing agent he was allergic to eventually brought Robin Holmes, University of Oregon Vice President of Student Life, to uphold a suspension decision made by both the UO Student Conduct office and the fraternity’s national headquarters.
Jonathan Gubler, Phi Delta Theta president, said the fraternity will not be allowed to congregate through parties or events for at least two years. While the fraternity’s national headquarters are urging for a suspension of at least four years, the decision for a two-year suspension is final.
Check out that last sentence, though. The school didn’t feel their violation was worthy of a longer suspension, but the Phi Delta Theta national office felt as though their boys weren’t worthy of seeing campus again before 2019, which is much longer than many suspensions handed to fraternities that committed much more heinous offenses. The excuse being tossed out by their national office is that they wanted to ensure that all current members of the chapter had graduated by the time they saw the light of day again, proving yet again that nationals had absolutely no idea of the daily realities that their chapters face. Nobody actually graduates in four years. Idiots.
When asked for a comment on the situation, the chapter’s president was too fond of the university’s decision and ensured they were aware of his displeasure.
“This by no means means we can’t hang out with one another, but we just can’t do things in an official setting,” Gubler said. “They’re not solving the problem. The members still go to the university, it’s still going to happen underground.”
Expect to see them raging again around 2017..

First again! This is too easy!
10 years ago at 9:44 amThe Pi Kapps will never be first. They’re still looking for their entry in Why Your Fraternity Sucks.
10 years ago at 9:48 amI admire your commitment here
10 years ago at 10:16 am…Fuck ISIS
10 years ago at 9:47 amWhat reason is that to suspend a fraternity? A fucking allergy incident?
10 years ago at 9:48 amPhi Delt is technically a “dry” fraternity.
10 years ago at 10:54 amMaybe they should go to a “wet” frat. If they drank beer like real men they wouldn’t have had an allergic reaction to the pineapple juice in their coconut rum.
10 years ago at 12:58 pmEvery frat at oregon is dry…
10 years ago at 1:42 pmThat’s what you get for living in the liberal wasteland that is the Northwest.
10 years ago at 1:45 pmThis is not true. Only frats at UofO are dry
10 years ago at 1:59 pm“Dry”
10 years ago at 2:11 pmIf you honestly think the houses and live outs are dry than your an idiot.
10 years ago at 2:14 pmI’ve been to many dry houses and not one of them have been dry. it’s meaningless
10 years ago at 6:41 pm*You’re
10 years ago at 1:04 pmThis has to be the stupidest thing I’ve seen a chapter get kicked off for.
10 years ago at 9:48 amIt’s up there with the cunnilingus incident.
10 years ago at 7:05 pmGHQ chugs dongs
10 years ago at 9:52 amFuck their nationals. So much for looking out for your brothers
10 years ago at 9:56 amOh we know exactly how much GHQ hates all of us.
10 years ago at 10:46 amThe dry fraternity whose nationals hates them.
10 years ago at 11:31 amAt Oregon, the Student Code of Conduct is currently getting sued and being called a “kangaroo court” they are skipping due process and leaving no transparency or great reason for their decision such as suspending a chapter for a minor incident such as an allergic reaction. These administrators are quite corrupt and despite getting sued still have a job and are making decisions on fraternities. Yet none of the people in the office making decisions on fraternities have ever been in greek life. The real issue at hand is that they are allowed to conduct investigations and create decisions differently from the U.S. judicial system. I won’t be surprised in a year or two if those administrators are fired for breaking the law.
10 years ago at 11:53 amFucked up move by their nationals, but Phi Delt at Oregon was pretty much nonexistent. They didn’t even have a house.
10 years ago at 12:19 pmThey’re extremely irrelevant. You went to UO? I always assumed you were from the Midwest considering your Cubs flag avatar.
10 years ago at 12:33 pmThe try hard is strong in you, fratstar
10 years ago at 12:47 pmThanks brother.
10 years ago at 12:57 pmPhi Delt doesn’t have a house, they were going to get it back from Kappa Alpha Theta in 2017, their suspension ends then so it’ll be interesting to see if they can still get it back. Probably not.
10 years ago at 12:34 pmThat building is honestly the ugliest “house” at UO and I am including SigEp in that list.
10 years ago at 2:13 pmIt’s pretty bad, but I heard the inside is cool. Pi Kapps “house” I think takes the cake for ugliest.
