Oregon State’s Phi Delta Theta Suspended, President Arrested After Police Raid Toga Party

Oregon State University police had themselves a field day last week. OSU’s Phi Delta Theta is currently suspended after police raided the fraternity’s Dec. 4 toga party and charged the chapter with 78 counts of providing alcohol to minors.

The The Corvallis Gazette-Times reports the chapter was charged with 39 counts of furnishing alcohol to minors and 39 counts of hosting a party for minors, Class A misdemeanors in the state of Oregon. The chapter’s current president, Ben Bellman, 21, and former chapter president Camron Stevens, 23, were both arrested for the party.

According to a police report, Corvallis officers responded to the local chapter just before 10 p.m. Friday, Dec. 4, following a report of an intoxicated female, and later reported that two women under the age of 21 required hospitalization for alcohol overdoses. A third woman later required a medical evaluation for alcohol overdose, according to the report.

An intoxicated female at a fraternity house? I don’t believe you. I hope there’s more to that initial call because that’s a pretty weak reason to raid a Friday night toga party. Maybe campus police are just getting an early jump on their monthly quotas.

“Fraternity leadership advised they were a ‘dry’ (no alcohol allowed) house, and nobody had been consuming alcohol there,” officers said in the report. “We asked for their consent to do a walk-through with them to confirm this, but they declined.”

Police later obtained a search warrant for the fraternity and reportedly seized about 25 partially consumed bottles of hard alcohol and 40 closed containers of beer, in addition to photographing about 120 empty alcohol bottles. A total of 39 people were later cited for being minors in possession in connection with the party, according to the report.

I once read in ancient English folklore about dry fraternity houses serving alcohol. Apparently, they would tell university officials they were a dry house and then rage their balls off. Not sure. That’s right up there with the Loch Ness Monster, Bigfoot, and the Abominable Snowman.

According to OSU Student Life, the fraternity has 92 total members with a house capacity of 55. Twenty-five bottles of hard alcohol and more than 160 beers is a decent start for a party that size.

Members of the fraternity are reportedly still allowed to live in the house and go to class while OSU investigates the incident.

Three girls had alcohol poisoning by the raid at 10pm? Yea because I’m sure they all didn’t just show up like that and it was all the fraternity’s doing

This is outrageous. Alcohol on a college campus? Students drinking? No no no…

Still confused on how they can pinpoint 39 specific underage individuals, when they never got to do the initial walk through.

Probably tested their BAC. All of this is shaky at best as they didn’t actually see anyone drinking at the house.

The toga party is a sacred institution. You DO NOT fuck with the toga.

So they had to take all of the time to go and get a warrant? Why didn’t everyone just leave?

Likely the cops posted up outside the house or left one squad there to detain people leaving, while other officers obtain the warrant. That’s the strategy my schools PD used all the time.
