David Feherty Talks About All The Whiskey And Drugs He Used To Consume In A Day

David Feherty Used To Down Two And A Half Bottles Of Whiskey A Day

The Irish have been known for their drinking prowess. I witnessed firsthand what a St. Patrick’s Day is like in Dublin. I have never seen so much drunken debauchery in my life, which played well into the hands of my pledge brothers and I at the time. David Feherty, one of the most notable personalities of the golf world, was one of those Irishman who could drink a lot.

In his career, Feherty became addicted to alcohol and other drugs, which led to his depression. He has never been silent about his issues on his drug and alcohol addiction, and he opened up some more in a recent interview about what a typical day was like for him.

From Golf Digest:

“A typical day was 30-40 Vicodin and two and a half bottles of whiskey…real whiskey. Whiskey with an ‘e,'” Feherty said. “There was cocaine, there was dope. When I think about it now I’m like, ‘Why am I alive?'”

Other Feherty revelations include going on a two-day bender after winning the Scottish Open in 1986, getting addicted to painkillers early in his career, and the role Tom Watson and Jack Nicklaus played in his recovery.

Two and a half bottles? That’s a hell of a lot of whiskey. Think about that. His typical year was downing 663 bottles. Let’s say he was spending an average of $50/bottle, which means David was shelling out over $45K a year just to drink the good stuff.

Here I am proud that I was able to down a whole bottle in one night without pissing myself and this guy just doubled that. I also respect the two-day bender after winning the Scottish Open. If I was a golfer and I won a tourney, I’d be partying for seven days straight.

What is the point of life if it all ends the same way? I am growing depressed in this world. I am going to drop some serious information in the comments section of fail Friday this week about who I really am. I don’t care if it gets me blackballed, I have no desire to be an active member in this community anymore.

I believe it. They’re easy to develop a tolerance to. I personally am at about 2000-45000 Vicodin every hour.

It might be different in Europe, but in the US, Vicodin has acetaminophen (Tylenol). Consuming more than 1,000 mg of Tylenol everyday will seriously damage your liver. The amount he’s talking about would definitely cause acetaminophen poisoning and his liver would shut down completely.

Ibuprofen is a different drug than acetaminophen… I wouldn’t take 2,000mg a day for an extended period of time because that will cause damage, but that doesn’t seem that far off from what I was perspired when I had various injuries.

Acetaminophen, on the other hand, reacts with alcohol to cause all sorts of problems in your liver, kidneys, and stomach.

So you drank one bottle in a day and think his two and a half bottles a day is double? Drastically downplaying the level of defeat. TFM.

40 Vicodin a day is a massive habit but completely possible. Tolerance develops quickly and unlike other drugs opiate tolerance doesn’t really plateau.
