I don’t understand why we don’t back the Kurds more, or even a Kurdish state. They haze the shit out of ISIS instead of tucking tail and running to Europe.
Because we very stupidly chose the Turks over them, and the Turks hate the Kurds. Yet the Kurds have hazed the Soviets, Saddam, and now ISIS, with the goal of securing an independent nation, while Turkey just buys ISIS oil and relies on NATO for protection like a bunch of pussies. The Turks also interfere with our allies Isreal and S. Arabia, both of whom we need.
Israel with their “trainers” lowkey working with the Peshmerga’s shock troops and helping form new urban warfare units to prep the HDP to take back Mosul are actually not against a Kurdish state. They just can’t officially or very publicly back it because that my spur more Arab resentment of a Kurdish state in the region.
Under current law, the U.S. is only allowed to arm sovereign governments. Any weapons must go through Baghdad. We could change the law, but there is concern that arming a segment of the population would lead to further instability in the country.
