John Oliver Absolutely Obliterates Donald Trump Over Mexico Wall Proposal

    1. FratGamesJasonKidd

Yeah because republicans are so easy to make jokes about. Conservatives get all their political news from the biased Fox News, the only channel stupid enough to agree with them, and then bitch and moan about things like “safe spaces”.

This is the kind of shit that makes me so ashamed to be a republican these days. Instead of just making blanket statements why not try refuting some of John Oliver’s claims:
-It’s going to be way more expensive than trump says.
-Bush already built a fence, and it didn’t work for shit.
-They had to seize tons of people’s property to build said fence.
-A wall doesn’t address any of the illegal immigration that happens at points of entry ~50%
      -Ladders and rope exist.

I mean, he’s right. Donald Trump says “build a wall” but even he knows it’s not a viable solution. He supports stronger control over the influx of immigrants and “build a wall” is a simple, easy to remember talking point for his supporters to rally behind. The guys behind Film Theory dis a great piece on Donald Trump and how he’s basically the country’s best reality star. He knows how to pull at Americans’ heart strings and can keep their attention long enough to garner their vote. It’s genius really.

He’s pandering to this country’s largest export, uninformed idiots, like a cartoon character selling sugary cereal to 5 year olds. Small words, simple concepts, lots of yelling.

The pet walrus anecdote was cute. Probably more applicable to Obama are and skyrocketing premiums though

Comedian or not, the information is valid. Mexico isn’t paying for shit, and you better believe I will hide Juan and his compadres in my shed if I have to if it means I don’t have to do my own yard work.

Idiotic media keeps repeating “Trump done said he gon’ make Mexico pay for the whole wall!” Trump isn’t planning on “making” Mexico pay for the wall. He is planning on the using the tax dollars from immigration fees and services to pay for the wall. Mexican citizens and tourists that want to come to America will be putting down tax dollars that will pay for the wall.

Yeah, Mexico is going to pay for it. Did you even read what I wrote? Immigration fees FROM Mexico.

Quoted directly from his website, on his political positions:

“…the United States will, among other things: impound all remittance payments derived from illegal wages; increase fees on all temporary visas issued to Mexican CEOs and diplomats (and if necessary cancel them); increase fees on all border crossing cards – of which we issue about 1 million to Mexican nationals each year (a major source of visa overstays); increase fees on all NAFTA worker visas from Mexico (another major source of overstays); and increase fees at ports of entry to the United States from Mexico [Tariffs and foreign aid cuts are also options].”

        Try doing some research, pal.

Yeah there’s these things called tariffs (if you aren’t familiar, they’re taxes imposed on countries that the us imports goods from e.g. Mexico). If we imposed a 1.5% tariff on goods we import from Mexico we receive ~$1.7 billion. And we would do that until the wall is paid off and then end the tariff.

Except if you watched the video you would know that the wall will cost north of $20 billion, and within 7 years it would become more expensive to maintain than it was to build. You won’t have even paid for half of the wall before you have to figure out how to maintain it.
But I get it, math hard.

A lot of people frame the immigration problem the wrong way. The real problem isn’t the number of people coming. Migrant workers, regardless of their legal status, are essential to a lot of industries in the US but not knowing who is coming to the US is the real issue. Sensible policy would make it very easy to come and work in the US , submit to a background check and receive tax designation number to apply for employment. We don’t even have to stop “ex”-criminals coming with the background check system, as long as they’re not US citizens we can surveil them without limits and deport or confine as needed. So let them come to our house as long as we have a security camera watching the doors and windows.

Might as well put an electric fence on the border and give all the Mexicans shock-collars. It’s just as practical.
