Texas A&M Has Become The New Laughingstock Of College Football

Texas A&M Is The New Laughingstock Of College Football

It was a sunny day in November of 2012 when an upstart Texas A&M team traveled to Tuscaloosa to take on the number one team in the land, the Alabama Crimson Tide. The Aggies weren’t supposed to be ranked. They were the new guys in the SEC. This was supposed to be a down year according to the pundits. Enter the poster-child for A&M football, Johnny Manziel. JFF dazzled, spun, ran, and juked into the hearts of Americans as he took down the hated Crimson Tide. A&M football had arrived.

The Aggies ran the state of Texas that year, so much so that they claimed the hashtag #WRTS on Twitter, which stood for “We Run This State.” They had all the swagger in the world. They actually looked like they might be here to stay with Sumlin and Kliff’s high-powered offense. Then Kliff left, Manziel couldn’t do it all, and the Aggies finished middle of the pack in the SEC the following year.

No worries, though, as Kenny Hill was waiting in the wings with 5-star Kyle Allen waiting in his wings and another 5-star Kyler Murray already committed. The Aggies were stocked at the offensive skill positions for years to come. And then came the implosion of the program…

Their in-state rival, the Texas Longhorns, seized momentum late in Charlie Strong’s first full year as a recruiter, finishing with a better recruiting class than the Aggies despite a terrible 6-7 record. Kenny Hill transferred, Kyle Allen faltered, and Kyler Murray was no better. But the coaching staff apparently had no idea how to handle these players and guaranteed both QBs substantial playing time. After discovering that promise wasn’t good at all, both of them up and left, leaving the Aggies with Jake Hubenak and OU transfer Trevor Knight. Yikes. They even spent money to make a documentary about a top recruit this past year who ended up signing with Texas.

Last night, things went from bad to worse for the folks down in College Station. The Aggies’ top commit and biggest recruiter, Tate Martell, decided that he would re-open his recruitment.

In this day and age, that is normal. Unless a kid is a diehard fan of a team, chances are likely that an early commit will flip on his initial decision. Well, this apparently didn’t please A&M’s current WR coach, Aaron Moorehead. He went on a Twitter rant to express his displeasure. The first tweet has since been deleted, but Dallas Morning News was able to get the wording.

Scared for this next group of kids. There is no accountability and no sense of positivity when it comes to adversity. #selfish #allaboutme
— Aaron Moorehead (@Amo8685) May 5, 2016

Yeah, you definitely weren’t talking about Tate despite the fact that those tweets happened after Martell announced his decision and no one else decommitted last night. Keep telling yourself that, Aaron. Regardless of whether or not that’s the case, your rant cost A&M some more recruits.

Moorehead didn’t learn from his mistake and doubled-down on his stance.

Even a current Stanford commit chimed in.

A&M as we know it is dead. It’s no coincidence that their downfall shadowed that of their hero Manziel. As his career crashed and burned, so did A&M’s reputation. It’s pretty bad when your coach is begging for an NFL job that he is wholly unqualified for to get away from the dumpster fire he’s created while running this program.

I leave you with a beautiful montage of the A&M football we used to know…

RIP A&M Football 2012-2012.

Eh, we don’t act like god’s gift to football. At least we know our expectations of being terrible, A&M fans do not.

So if A&M is “terrible” but they beat SMU 58-6 last time they played, does that make SMU, like, super duper terrible?

Actually, the most comical part of A&M football is that they thought they could play with the big boys in the SEC without emphasizing defense.

They also allowed his second account to stay, StallonDaPike or something like that. Frabst, a staple of CotW, worse than Stallon?

Harrison you’re wrong on several facts. First of all, Texas A&M didn’t make a video about that player. It was TexAgs. That would be like saying The Patriots made a video about Tom Brady when it was really Barstool Sports. Or saying Harrison Lee made a video about UT. Also, running in the middle of the pac of the SEC West in 2013 was the end of the program? That was better than most of the other Texas schools that year. And Sumlin isn’t out seeking an NFL job. Several NFL teams have approached him about one but A&M has retained him for better or for worse.

They still won’t be as shit as Miami (OH) post-Roethlisberger. 1 win in 2 seasons is really something.

Let’s put this in perspective. TAMU, at the height of their program, went 11-2 with Manziel and won the Cotton Bowl. Sumlin, and the entire TAMU program, is nothing but a big hype machine luring recruits with nice facilities and fantasies of great tradition.
