This Stephen Colbert Interview With Bill O’Reilly Is Some Of The Best Television I’ve Ever Seen
It’s kind of depressing that the presidential nominees will never reach the level of discourse Stephen Colbert and Bill O’Reilly, secret best friends, achieved on last night’s episode of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.
I love Stephen Colbert and I love Bill O’Reilly. Both guys are extremely intelligent and strong in their convictions. If you have 15 minutes, I recommend watching this interview about what the country needs to do to prevent another tragedy like the one that happened Sunday morning in Orlando. It’s awesome.
Regardless of what you believe, you have to appreciate two people on different sides of the aisle having a legitimate conversation about necessary steps to prevent further tragedies.
It’s sad how it has become such a rare occurrence to see conversations like this that I felt the need to share it on here. But that’s kind of where we are in our new politically awful world. This interview is goddamn fantastic. Hell, you even see O’Reilly and Colbert compromise on gun restrictions. And the crowd that was clearly planning on booing Bill hit him with some surprising applause breaks.
I’m not here to add my political commentary. I’m just here to aggregate great content. In a world of extremely bad television, this was Good Television™. Enjoy..

9 years ago at 11:59 pmI miss Colbert’s character on the Colbert Report, but he’s still a sharp fellow. All too often leftists block out any rational discussion with terms like “bigot.” So it’s nice to see some reasonable discussion.

9 years ago at 6:18 amAR-15 is chambered in 5.56, a small caliber. Not necessarily more deadly than any other semi automatic rifle. Banning it would be like banning one kind of alcohol to stop alcohol deaths.
9 years ago at 7:47 amThey’re deadlier simply because they hold more rounds than a traditional hunting rifle. I can get a drum of 100 rounds for my AR (and standard mags hold 30) but my Remington 30-06 that’s semi auto only holds 5 rounds. On top of that, the AR platform is incredibly good at reducing recoil to stay on target–one blast of most larger caliber hunting rifles will recoil quite a bit and take some time to re-acquire a target. Obviously I’m not saying we should ban ARs, I love them and own two, but let’s call a spade a spade here–if you want to kill a bunch of people an AR-15 is a much better choice than a regular semi auto hunting rifle for quite a few reasons.

9 years ago at 2:18 pmThey are not all illegal. You can obtain them with a class 3 firearms license, a hefty tax (I think? That might just be with silencers), and they used to go for for about $10,000 – $18,000 each at a gun show a couple years ago in Pennsylvania.

9 years ago at 11:24 amIt’s actually easier than you think. they are not illegal at all if you go through the proper channels. They are under a “shall issue, with discretion” permit. you have the right to get an automatic weapon if you pay the tax stamp and you are not a criminal.

No need to down vote just because someone is liberal. he is even acknowledging that “the other side” has decent points and can be civil. That’s a big step for any political discussion.
I’m no liberal but I for one invite legitimate discussion. This country is as fucked up as it is because neither of the two biggest parties is willing to stop vilifying the other. This isn’t a sports rivalry. To concede that you might agree with the other side about an issue shouldn’t disqualify you from being a loyal member of the side you favor more.
I hate to even have to say “other side” because we are individuals and being forced into a two party system has had a mostly negative effect. There is a big part of the country that agrees with that sentiment.
