Incredible Video Released Of College Student Taking Out Active Shooter In 2014

In 2014 at Seattle Pacific University, Aaron R. Ybarra shot three students, one was killed. He was going for more when the heroic actions of one student, Jon Meis, stopped Ybarra from doing any more harm. Meis rushed Ybarra and took the gun from him, and then went on to tackle the shooter as he reached for his knife.

Prosecutors in the case released the security cam footage. It’s awesome.

Just so awesome that Jon was willing to risk his life to save those of others. Not only that, but he did one hell of a job utilizing the pepper spray/element of surprise to rip the gun from Ybarra. Kid’s a hero.

More courageous than the rest of us. Good on that kid for risking it to save others from potential harm.

Would be too easy. I would let the rest of his life be in misery as he rots away in prison for eternity.

you always see people say something along the lines of “oh, id do that” and being a hero is never a concious decision (aside from troops). if you have to think “gee, what should I do here?” the moment will have already passed by. it blows my mind that everyone just assumes theyd step up and be a hero, and it blows my mind even more whrn I see an actual hero in action.

The USA suffers from a severe mental health problem, disguised as a need for gun control problem.. I don’t think these people are evil, just deeply psychologically disturbed. As a state employee (recent grad) working in mental health, it’s a very sad and eye opening phenomenon when you get into reading case loads of similar instances. I’m glad this guy had the courage to dismantle that threat before it could have gotten much much worse. The best advice I can give is buy a pistol, take a CWP class, and get comfortable carrying as much as possible and pray you never have to be a “hero.” Worlds a dangerous place out there now a days. Be prepared for it, not scared of it.
