Bama Players Who Were Arrested On Felony Drug And Weapons Charges Probably Going To Get Off Scot-Free

Remember those Alabama players who got pinched with a stolen handgun and a whole bunch of drugs in their car back in May? Yeah, they’re probably going to get off.

From ESPN:

Prosecution of Alabama left tackle Cam Robinson and safety Laurence “Hootie” Jones has been declined, according to a filing from the Ouachita Parish (Louisiana) district attorney’s office.

The filing cites insufficient evidence, for Robinson, on charges of possession of a controlled dangerous substance and illegal possession of a stolen firearm and, for Jones, possession of a controlled dangerous substance. Both were arrested in mid-May in their hometown of Monroe, Louisiana. A court appearance set for late last week was delayed before Monday’s news.

“I want to emphasize once again that the main reason I’m doing this is that I refuse to ruin the lives of two young men who have spent their adolescence and teenage years, working and sweating, while we were all in the air conditioning,” district attorney Jerry Jones told KNOE-TV

At 6 foot 6, 325 pounds, Robinson is a beast of a left tackle who has started at one of the best programs in the country every game since his freshman year. ESPN NFL draft expert Mel Kiper Jr. lists Robinson as the No. 7 player for the 2017 draft on his Big Board.

These are some big bucks were talking about here, with a lot at stake. Now, conveniently, it seems the local DA has a broken heart over the fact that these two make their living outside “working and sweating.” I’m not buying it. One of my fellow writers pointed out that the DA basically all but says he got a check in the mail. You know that if either one of these guys were regular students, they’d be on the first train to Federal Pound-me-in-the-ass prison for the pot alone. It’s Louisiana.

While pulling one over on the cops is always a TFM, and I have to respect it at least from that point of view, let’s get serious for a second here. I took an ethics class and got a C-, but I pass/no-passed that shit so hard that I think I’m perfectly qualified to pose this question: At what point do people who have extraordinary abilities (in sports, art, big boobs, etc.) get to just sort of break regular people laws a little bit? When does their exceptional contribution to society cancel out smoking weed in the back of a car with stolen weapons? I mean, if it’s not really hurting anyone. What if it is something worse? We tend to treat famous people differently no matter what the circumstances are.

I don’t know the answer (Like I said, C-). The best advice is that if you have everything to lose, just try not to fuck up.

I just read the article on ESPN. “I want to emphasize once again that the main reason I’m doing this is that I refuse to ruin the lives of two young men who have spent their adolescence and teenage years, working and sweating, while we were all in the air conditioning”- DA Jerry Jones. These guys had a stolen firearm in their car, anyone else regardless of color would be fucked royally by the law under these circumstances.

So we’re just gonna give immunity to all the people who work outdoors mowing lawns, blowing leaves, and putting up roofs cause they don’t get to work in an air conditioned building? Thanks Obama.

Cam Robinson should be punished for being a dipshit. He was guaranteed a top-10 selection with only a decent season. Top-10 picks make a minimum of three million a year for the first five years. He obviously doesn’t respect money, or himself for that matter.

the next time the cops show up at your door it’s time to “self-identify” as a black football player

I actually agree with DA that solely possessing drugs and weapons should not be grounds to prosecute someone for a crime, for there is a missing element of intent to commit a crime. That being said, until the shitty laws are taken off the books, he needs to file charges.

Of course possession of an illegal gun is a crime, I was referring to charging someone for possessing a plant. I don’t even smoke but I’d rather the jail cells be filled with those who had criminal intent.

If you did a little research you’d learn that there were two other males in the car who were conveniently allowed to go home after learning they weren’t football players. Also, that “whole bunch of drugs” was a gram of weed. Sure the attorney should’ve given literally any other explanation than that, but let’s not act like there was foul play behind the scenes when you obviously only read a headline for your story.
