Tim Tebow Officially Signs With MLB Team

Tim Tebow is officially on the road to the bigs. Whether he gets to the bigs is a different story for a different day. After showing off his skills last week, the New York Mets made it official on Thursday morning when they signed Tebow to a minor league contract.
From ESPN:
The New York Mets signed Tim Tebow to a minor league contract and said he will begin his professional baseball career on their instructional league team in Port St. Lucie, Florida.
The Mets decided to sign Tebow on Wednesday, a source told ESPN’s Adam Schefter. General manager Sandy Alderson met with team co-owner Jeff Wilpon, who signed off on Alderson’s suggestion that they get a deal done.
The instructional league runs from September to October.
Say what you will about Tebow, but you’ve got to give credit where credit is due. Honestly, when I first heard he was going to try his hand at baseball, I laughed. I didn’t think he’d have a shot to be signed. I watched his tryout and came away with the same thought a lot of other scouts had: below average arm, decent swing, still can’t hit the offspeed stuff.
Of course, this is most likely a publicity ploy.
Tebow gets an unfair treatment by the media, in my opinion. It all started at Florida when he was bashed for loving our lord and savior too much. But isn’t he what you’d want your future son to be? Someone who loves what they do so much and work his ass off to accomplish his goals? Your son won’t be the wait-til-marriage type like Tebow, but he’ll still be riding his work-ethic to a first round pick..

10 years ago at 9:36 amObviously a publicity stunt but still good for Tebow. He got screwed in the NFL. I hated the guy in college but I gotta admit he’s a winner.

10 years ago at 9:59 amAs a Mets and jets fan, I can’t believe this is the second time this guy has signed with my team
10 years ago at 10:29 amCool a rookie league contract. It’s basically a league for guys that were signed becuase the team has no real hopes for a future player. Just a space filler on a A or AA team eventually.
