Like I always say, “When two dicks meet, things can get hot.” You know what? I’m just now hearing how that sounds. It’s starting to make a lot of sense why the police were called on me after I broke up that fist fight between two eighth graders and tried to give them some advice about not being mean people at a nearby playground the other day. Whoops.

That now-retired saying of mine is still pretty apt in regard to this video, though. If you tear down someone else’s political signs, you’re a dick. If you boobytrap your own political signs with electricity and film an aforementioned dick getting electrocuted trying to take the sign down, you’re kind of a dick too. Especially if you then release that video to the world. Granted, it’s hilarious and we all appreciate you doing it, red state Kevin McCallister, but you’re still a dick.

And, of course, things did technically get hot.

I can’t exactly say I feel bad for this kid (because I don’t). But I can also safely say that I wouldn’t want to live in a neighborhood with a man who sets booby traps and films them. Just a real solid human interaction here.

    I would say that defending your property does not make you a dick, even if its something as insignificant as a little sign. It’s the principle behind it for me. Even if it were a hillary sign, I wouldnt label the sign owner as a dick, thats their right as a property owner. Dont fuck with people’s shit and you wont get electrocuted

      I guess on principle I don’t disagree with you. And like I said, I don’t feel bad for the shitty kid. But electrocuting someone over $10 is pretty dick. And filming it and publishing it is definitely a dick/creepy move. Also this is technically illegal I think. That’s what our in house attorney said.

        I would think that since the kid is trespassing and attempting petty theft on your property it would be something like implied consent to be filmed, since security camera footage of criminals is all over TV shows.

        Just passed the bar exam in South Carolina here. Booby trapping your property in any way like this is most definitely illegal. Even though the guy was trespassing, you can’t set up booby traps to hurt people who come onto your property. Public policy values human life over your property rights. The trespasser would definitely have a cause of action.

        The South Carolina Bar Exam just makes sure you don’t drool when talking. Plus, the booby trapping you’re talking about needs to result in mortal harm to the trespasser, like a rigged shotgun.

        De Fries and Ruff should be considered as much “lawyers” as Bacon should be considered “funny” on the podcast. But no, this would not be considered illegal in Texas because unlike a steel loaded shotgun trap to protect property, you cannot trespass on a political yard sign. That notwithstanding, I’d sue the homeowner anyway if I were that hippy.

      You don’t have the right to protect your property at all costs when it comes to booby-traps. The extreme classic case is a guy who rigged up a loaded gun in his garage and it shot a kid. This example ranks somewhat substantially below that, but in the end I’d say it’s not advised.
