Iowa Republicans Introduce Bill To Force College Students To “Suck It Up”

Look, we all know something has happened to turn most college students in the country into massive weeping genital sores. Maybe they were always like that, but now they’re louder? I don’t know. All I do know is that you would never find the kids in fraternities and sororities getting into “campus cry fests” and “healing spaces,” or the hilariously-named “self care sessions.” Last time I checked, a group of people “self-caring” together was called something else.

But the rest of them have become so absorbed in such a stupid, self-affirming bubble of microaggressions and safe spaces that there’s really no way to come back to reality.

Until now. A group of Iowa Republicans have looked out across the nation, and heard the stories of professors getting fired for Facebook posts or making casual comments and resolved to make a change. If Obama can ban drilling in the Arctic forever with the stroke of a pen, by God, then maybe we can legislate maturity and tolerance into America’s aggressively sensitive college students.

Behold, the “Suck It Up Buttercup” bill.

Bobby Kaufmann, a Republican, plans to introduce a bill that echoes the eye-rolling frustration expressed by many who think colleges are “coddling” their students.

The bill would take aim at state universities that offer election-related sit-ins and grief counseling beyond the resources normally available to students. Those colleges that use taxpayer dollars to fund these extra programs would be subject to a budget cut for double the amount they spend.

It’s about freakin’ time. I believe college administrators are responsible for indulging the humorless, caustic activism and desire to censor society by university students.

I have a theory: there is a way to approach diversity and cultural tensions in a way that acknowledges them but bridges these gaps in cooperative way. Where you come at differences with a view of “let’s try to understand each other better.”

Universities and ultra-liberal America has embraced one of the darker sides of human nature by trying to both force diversity/tolerance and punish non-compliance, while trying to shield college students from idealogical differences. They come at diversity with a view of “you think our way or we are going to censor and intimidate you, and then whine about how bad the world is when things don’t go our way.”

This “Buttercup Bill” might be just what we need to inject a sharp dose of realism into the university bubble..
