UF Student Body President Had One Of Those “So Drunk I Don’t Remember Going To Key West” Tuesdays

Meet William Smith Meyers, the recently elected student body president at the University of Florida and early MVP candidate for the 2017 spring break season. After several failed attempts at starting unoccupied parked motorcycles in a drunken stupor, a disappointed Meyers was apprehended by Key West police when he pushed over and damaged two Harley-Davidsons out of frustration.

One of the arresting officers, Nicholas Galbo, noted that Meyers was “so intoxicated that he did not even recall coming down to Key West for spring break vacation.”

A resident early Tuesday morning called 911 after going outside to investigate loud noises only to find Meyers shoving parked scooters and motorcycles to the pavement in the 400 block of William Street, police said.

Meyers got on several of the motorbikes but when he could not get them started he “became upset and pushed them over,” the resident said.

I’m sure plenty of publications will to try to tear down this kid, perhaps even going as far as asking for his resignation, but not me. I like my leaders to have both edge and an everyman temperament that we can all connect to and this story covers those two in spades. It’s no wonder he won the student body election unopposed. Would you rather elect some nerd that has never stepped foot in the local watering holes around campus or the hero that gets arrested in a Hawaiian shirt trying to rev the fuck out of a shiny bike engine during a spring break trip he forgets he’s on? You’re casting that vote for the latter ten times out of ten and running against such an iconic figure is a foolish endeavor.
