FSU Beta Broke The World Record For Largest Game Of Flip Cup For Charity

I once competed in a charity flip cup event. The charity was “Help Line The Pockets Of The Blue Mountain State Dudes With More Money By Promoting Their Movie Via Integrated Marketing Techniques.” Great, important cause.

But I dare say Beta Theta Pi at Florida State University has one-upped our charitable act, both in terms of actual charitability and scale.

From FSUNews.com:

In theory, there is no limit on the number of players for Flip Cup. As a result, Beta Theta Pi saw an opportunity to involve the student body and support FSU’s Victim Advocate Program by breaking the World Record for the largest game of flip cup ever played.

On Friday, March 24, hundreds of people joined the fraternity Beta Theta Pi for the event Flip For Change in Langford Green by the stadium. This event was one of the many hosted by the organization as part of their 2017 Philanthropy Week to raise money for the Florida State University Victim’s Advocate Program. The Victim Advocate Program offers support and help to students who have been a victim of various crimes like sexual assault, battery and theft that occur across Tallahassee.

“We wanted to put on an event that would get not only Greek life but the whole school involved to benefit a program that has helped countless students,” said Jimmy Kropelin, the Philanthropy Chair for Beta Theta Pi.

In 2016, the Chicago Cubs aimed to break the record for the World’s Largest Flip Cup Game for charity with 202 participants. Now in 2017, Beta Theta Pi holds the title with over 230 people in attendance.

Great cause, great publicity, great God almighty FSU’s administration is awesome for letting this event go down. Most universities hear “flip cup” and nip this event in the bud faster than your flip cup team’s chances of winning are nipped in the bud the moment your fraternity brother on the opposing team intentionally sticks that no-armed DG on your side of the table to give his squad a competitive advantage. USE YOUR TONGUE THEN, KAREN, I DON’T GIVE A SHIT.

It’s nice to see a university give a fraternity the benefit of the doubt for a change, and equally nice to see a fraternity actually not ruin that trust once it’s been given. Good on you, FSU Beta.
