UNH Alpha Phi Is Getting Bashed For Singing N-Word During Kanye’s “Gold Digger”
The University of New Hampshire’s Alpha Phi chapter is being investigated for singing along to Kanye West’s “Gold Digger.” If you don’t remember the lyrics to that classic hit, they go a little something like this:
Now I ain’t saying she a gold digger,
but she ain’t messing with no broke ni**as.
Here’s the smoking gun video evidence:
From Facebook/All Eyes on UNH:
A member of Alpha Phi Sorority put up this video of girls singing along to Gold Digger by Kanye West on her Instagram story. The girls sing the n-word without thinking of the implications.
This is a showcase of ignorance and that the Panhellenic Council should do better in combating racism. The first step is addressing willful ignorance. #RacistUNH
University of New Hampshire
Commence the outrage.
The girl who posted this to Instagram is probably in some seriously deep shit. Dropping the N-word while singing along to a Kanye jam is not the worst atrocity in the history of American society, but still — if you’re in a sorority and want to keep that squeaky-clean image to which every house strives, it’s probably best you go with the radio edit version lyric of “but she ain’t messing with no broke, broke.”
Then, you can “get down girl, go ahead get down” as much as you want. Now, you’re gonna have to go through PHC meetings and nasty online comments, and nobody wants those. They’ll really put a damper on your day.
In response to the outrage here, I, for one, pledge to only listen to music made by my own people. Which means… Oh god… Pitbull? Are you shitting me? Fuck. I take it back. I TAKE IT BACK!.

Either we can all say it or nobody can. Any other standard is racist.

8 years ago at 6:18 pmWhoever is outraged by this is obviously way overreacting. Context is always key and saying the n word in a song is way different than say Oklahoma SAE. But in 2017 it’s on you to have the common sense to not post shit like this on instagram even if you didn’t mean anything wrong by it

8 years ago at 7:18 pmWhat, a, travesty. Maybe if these girls weren’t too busy singing the lyrics to a song accurately they could be out protesting the president, the glass ceiling, and rape culture.

8 years ago at 12:13 pmCan’t help but feel like if this was a divine nine organization, this wouldn’t even be an issue.
8 years ago at 12:54 pmIt is never not okay to sing a song exactly as it is written. If they slipped nigga in a song where it was not originally I get that but this should be a nonissue.
