West Virginia Mascot Arrested For DUI

For most of us, Halloween only comes once a year and it’s the only day it’s socially acceptable to gallivant around society wearing a costume and acting like an asshole. And to make things better, you can even be drunk while you do it. There are two notable exceptions to this rule: sorority girls at a mixer and college sport mascots.

College sports mascots are a different breed of their own from everyone from the Rutgers Scarlet Night to the hip-hop dance moves of the BYU Cougar. College sports mascots are the lucky breed that, instead of spending their Sundays blackout drunk in the stands, spend it, while also presumably blackout drunk, in a sweaty, furry costume.

Unfortunately, one of these icons of the college game couldn’t keep his sobriety in check off the field.

The man who typically plays the West Virginia mascot at football games won’t be in attendance on Saturday.

Per the Dominion Post, Troy Clemons was arrested early Friday on suspicion of DUI. He failed sobriety tests and had an alleged blood alcohol content of 0.126.

If anyone at WVU was going to get arrested for anything, I’d suspect it’d be guarding their moonshine with muskets, or inbreeding. A drunk college mascot driving around sounds like something straight out of the 22 Jump Street movie with Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill. Granted, if I had to dress up like a Davy Crockett wanna-be I’d drink to get my BAC to almost twice the legal limit as well. I wonder if he was wearing the costume when he got arrested. He made a dumb decision and would have looked like a dumbass doing it.

A statement was released from the “Mountaineer Mascot Advisory Council,” which is apparently a thing, saying another person would play the mountaineer man. Good for him. I’m sure saying “I’m the backup school mascot” is a line that got him laid at parties plenty of times..
