IU-Bloomington TKE Was Allegedly Running Massive Drug Operation From Fraternity House
Three months ago we reported that Tau Kappa Epsilon at Indiana University was facing a mighty long suspension, and we couldn’t seem to figure out why. The incident that had apparently caused the suspension didn’t seem to fit the crime that the university was dishing out.
Well, it appears now that university officials may have very well had knowledge of something else that was going on — like say for instance, a brother running a massive criminal drug operation partially out of his chapter’s house.
From WTHR 13:
An IU Bloomington student faces three drug charges, and police say he may have dealt out of his fraternity house.
After receiving a tip from another law enforcement agency, campus police searched Levi Jacob Lewis’ car on December 30 and found 14 one-pound bags of marijuana, more than $3,000 in cash, 26 Vyvanse pills prescribed to Lewis, three 500mg vape canisters and a small notebook and papers that appeared to be ledgers.
The next day, a search warrant for Lewis’ phone reportedly turned up evidence “Lewis was involved in large scale narcotics sales, some of which were conducted at the Tau Kappa Epsilon house,” according to court documents. They also found numerous text conversations about drugs, what he sold and setting up deals to buy from him.
Adults are so unfair! Oh like you never kept 14 pounds of weed in your car when you were in college. Good for you, Dad. Our guy Levi sounds like a real brainy dude. I’m no criminal, but if I was — if I was — I sure as hell would not leave a mountain of incriminating evidence in my car. He’s lucky he got along as long as he did with that shitty of a system. Don’t hate the ledger, though; at least he was organized. Maybe he should have been an accounting major.
After realizing this level of intelligence, the police went to the second most obvious spot possible to look for more evidence: the fraternity house.
Based on that, police got a search warrant for Lewis’ room at the fraternity’s house. Inside, they say they found three glass smoking devices, a set of Triton T3 scales, a glass mason jar holding 12 grams of marijuana stems, a plastic bag holding two grams of marijuana, four THC vape cartridges and a vape pen, two large plastic bags with marijuana residue, four nuggets of THC/marijuana edibles weighing 4 grams and a small amount of what appeared to be cocaine.
Hey, what do you know. There’s some more stuff that says I definitely deal weed out of here, and just a smidge of cocaine.
It is obvious at this point that this kid was bound to get caught but still I’m curious — who tipped off authorities? Did one of his brothers get fed up and decide to narc?
IU campus police first started looking into Lewis for this latest case after a tip from Evansville police that they were investigating a homicide involving Lewis. EPD investigators say Lewis set up a drug deal there with 41-year-old Michael Pardee. During that deal, Pardee was killed. Donovan Thomas, 21, and DeSean Summer, 20, were arrested in January for that December 30 shooting, according to WFIE, our NBC station in Evansville.
Well that escalated quickly. Given his track record, Lewis probably left a signed note with the words “I set this shit up” scribbled in purple crayon.
TKE has suspended the university’s charter after what can only be described as an embarrassing ordeal. It sucks for the other brothers who weren’t involved, but based on what I’ve seen, there is no way this guy should have ever gotten a bid.
Moral of the story: Let’s try not to deal a massive amount of drugs out of the fraternity house, or if you’re still going to do it, don’t aid in a murder so as to alert the cops of your operation..
