Update: The WVU Student Who Blacked Out And Took A $1600 Uber Is Getting His Whole Bill Covered In The Name Of Responsible Drinking?
There appears to have been another twist in the rollercoaster of a story that is the blacked out exploits of West Virginia Student Kenny Bachman. We first reported last week about how he accidentally took an Uber over 300 miles back to his parents’ house in New Jersey. Then, we followed up with his shameless plans to use crowdfunding to recoup his losses. But now it appears that everything is going to work out as a New Jersey based company has agreed to foot the bill for Bachman’s little roadtrip.
From WHSV 3:
A New Jersey man who got drunk in West Virginia and mistakenly ordered a $1,635 Uber ride to his home state will be reimbursed by a food delivery company.
Jamie Giovinazzo, founder of Eat Clean Bro in Freehold, New Jersey, says his company will pay the fare to thank Kenny Bachman for choosing not to drive while drunk. Giovinazzo says Bachman’s decision helped keep the roadway safe for other motorists.
He may have gone full blackout and had zero control over his actions, but at least he didn’t drive. I’m not sure that the good fellas at Eat Clean Bro (clever name) are sending the most positive message by backing Kenny on this one. I mean, yes, we should all be thankful that he didn’t drive that night, but let’s not pretend that he’s some hero. Firefighters, doctors, and blackout college kids…? Doesn’t really fit, does it?
Power move on this company’s part, though. This story has gone viral and all the exposure that they will be receiving is well worth the $1600. But what about that Kickstarter that has now racked up $650?
Bachman had requested donations via GoFundMe to pay the fare. That money will instead go to Mothers Against Drunk Driving
Smooth move, Kenny. Smooth move.
Let’s all just hope Kenny doesn’t do anything reckless and put his new endorsers in a bad spot. Maybe for the time being just sit back and take it all in. Take in the fact that this initially horrific mistake could not have turned out any better, you lucky S.O.B..
