Alabama LB Mack Wilson Versus Georgia RB Elijah “Evander’s Son” Holyfield Is The On-Field Matchup We All Deserve

Even with the Final Four, NBA playoffs, and Opening Day all right around the corner, nothing gets the blood flowing to my sports boner quite as quickly as college football. And while the start to the season may not be as near on the horizon, there are just some storylines specifically designed to have diehard college football fans like myself fully torqued until that last week of August.

Enter Georgia running back Elijah Holyfield, the son of boxing legend Evander Holyfield. The kid looks like an Abrams tank ate a freight train and chased it down with nitroglycerin. That dude runs full speed at you, and you’re olé-ing that sucker like some pussy-ass matador. That is, unless you’re packing the sack of Alabama linebacker Lyndell “Mack” Wilson.

From SEC Country:

And here’s what Wilson had to say in response:

That’s the competitive spirit you love to see if you’re an Alabama fan. Wilson has proven to be that kind of player for the Tide, albeit fighting through injuries last season.

As a sophomore in 2017, he played in 11 games and recorded 40 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss and 4 interceptions. He also has a forced fumble in his career. That line is a bit more impressive than Holyfield’s — he has just two career touchdowns on only 56 career carries in a pair of seasons with the Bulldogs.

But with Sony Michel and Nick Chubb off to the NFL, perhaps Holyfield will get more of an opportunity.

To quote from G-Eazy banger No Limits, “It ain’t safe! It ain’t safe! It ain’t safe! It ain’t safe!” To also quote from the title of the two-time Oscar Award-winning Paul Thomas Anderson film starring Daniel Day Lewis, “There Will Be Blood!”

Even with Wilson’s struggle with a foot injury last year (he’s made a strong recovery), Holyfield’s lack of big-time numbers (he’s sure to get more reps), AND despite the Photoshopped picture thats been circulating of Holyfield (he looks like an absolute beast regardless), this is destined to be one hell of an on-field rivalry. I just know it.

Maybe I’m too eager to buy into the hype, but this is one of those things that has the feel of a pure, unadulterated trench battle, with truck sticks behind traded for explosive hits. The intensity of the Georgia-Alabama rivalry is already through the roof, and a one-on-one slugfest will only serve to make this matchup all the more explosive.

Wilson’s already proven himself on the field. And I’d bet my right ear that, when the time comes, we’ll see that Elijah Holyfield is, in fact,…the real deal.
