Mizzou Protests Cost University $1.3 Million For A PR Company To Fix Its Image

We’re almost three years removed from the racial protests that erupted at the University of Missouri, but we’re still learning more details from those fateful weeks. Mizzou’s public image during and after the protests was, of course, not great. So the university did the sensible thing: Dropped a load of cash on a public relations firm to tidy its image up.

The university’s administration embarked on a “listening tour” and hired 160over90, a branding firm, at a cost of $1.3 million over three years. At the PR firm’s recommendation, Mizzou spent $1.8 million on marketing tied to recruiting and enrolling for the fall – which amounts to about $230 per student.

A university spokesperson told Fox News enrollment is projected to be up by 14 percent and that the school has received a “significant amount of increased support from legislators, alumni and the general public.”

And boom, just like that, my Tigers are back, baby. It just goes to show that all you need is a series of tweets, some good poster work and a touch of kissing hands and shaking babies to get the job done. Wait, no. Shaking hands, kissing babies. My b.

Honestly, $1.3 milly isn’t that bad for a public relations so bad. All you’ve got to do is have a few PR campaigns go your way and a winning football season and everything falls back into place. Just ask USC. Oh, you don’t remember that their title was vacated because Reggie Bush’s family was getting paid? But you remember they won that national title and continue to have a top-tier football program and university, right? Exactly.

In the end, everyone’s a winner. Mizzou got a chance to clean up its image and the protesters ended racism forever. Good job, Tigers..
