(in reference to your name) I’m not trying to offend anyone, but why is the south so obsessed with a war they lost? As a northerner/victor, I don’t care about the civil war. I’m pretty sure it’s over guys. Lets put it 145 years in the past and continue being the greatest country in the world.
I wouldn’t call it an obsession, and I also wouldn’t generalize all of the South in this either. Regardless, I personally believe that it is healthy to remember the past. It’s not necessarily about the War, but why the War was fought. If the colonies hadn’t seceded from Britain, Texas from Mexico, etc. Sure, the South lost, and now we don’t have slaves, but we still have the memories of the days before civil rights and suffrage. These Antebellum days were the time when free trade was in its hayday. A man was undeniably the leader of the household. You cculdn’t vote if you didn’t own a stake in society. I’ll just stop now, I think yall get my point.
Yea really Fratton, believe it or not, America is much better off than we were back then. The only change I see that is even worth noting is the fact that women are becoming more prevalent in the workforce…aside from that, we are doing much better than some of you would like to believe.
It’s worth remembering because almost 300,000 Southern men died for it. Just because we lost doesn’t mean we should forget their sacrifice. Right or wrong, these men died for something they believed in and I’ll be damned if political correctness forces people to forget that.
We base our values off of those shown by the Gentleman Robert E. Lee. Wearing of the uniforms show how we are under his direction. After an incident at UA two years ago, nationals won’t let us wear the uniforms any longer. I’m sorry that your fraternity doesn’t have the tradition of the Order.
