It’s not a matter of winning or losing in this case. It’s a matter of regional pride in being Southern. I’m from the south and most my family has been here for many generations and fought for the South. I also had family that fought for the North. The war is fascinating and the outcome was probably for the best. But the issue of state’s rights and having Southern pride is the point of Confederate History Month. Proud to be American born but Southern by God’s grace.
The fact that the North fought to regain the South proves the South to be more invaluable than the USA. No one would have complained if New Jersey, New Hampshire, Vermont, or Maine would have succeeded. Hell, it probably would have been for the best
Year round frat is quite right. The Civil War was is so fascinating because of all the issues with American government it concerned. The controversial issues people focus on today are missing the point of what is to be learned from the civil war. It is rather the most eminent example in American history of how fragile the balance is between state and federal governing powers. Although popular opinion favors the victor, one must be more discerning in remaining unbiased in judging the value of what each side stood for regarding the rights of their governments. It is essential to study in order to form thoughts on when a government has become destructive of its ends, and what abuse of power warrants such a drastic secession. One must also consider what reasons are noble enough to justify a national government pursuing military ends to secure a region that willfully desires independence. Clearly, there are complex issues on both sides that lead to their belief that their course of action was the just one. While each side had its faults, the southern perspective remembers the South’s desire to separate from what they saw as an abusive federal government, and their belief in their right to declare sovereignty to pursue their own government free of intrusion.
Your regional pride is based on fighting (and losing, we can’t forget that) an unjust war to preserve slavery. The only state’s right that any of them were interested in was slavery, it was in the Confederate constitution. Your backwoods idiot ancestors almost ripped this country in half, mine kept it together.
I’m sick of you god damn yanks trying to tell us what we are proud of. It is something you will never understand and something that can never be taken from us.
A history of losing. Cool.
