I have some oxfords, blazers, and ties passed down to me from my Grandfather and I don’t think there’s a damn thing wrong about that. This doesn’t mean in any way that you’re a poor GDI who gets hand-me-downs.

Agreed SEC. Some things are ok to be handed down. I have several ties, a blazer, and a couple American flag suit pins and tie clips from my Grandfather. Things like that add to the classic conservative look.

Clothes need to either be brand new or handed down and broken in. I have a pair of my Dad’s boots, probably around 20 some years old, perfectly broken in and full of character, that I probably wear at least once a week. Can’t be beat.

There’s literally no difference between a hand-me-down and something that’s “handed down.” Removing the hyphens doesn’t making getting old clothes from your grandfather more prestigious for a rich kid than it does for a poor kid. Getting a box of your granddad’s old button-downs because he can’t fit in them anymore isn’t “FaF” just because the clothes are old and expensive, either.

That said, what does add prestige is receiving a special item like a tie, boots, a blazer, a hat, etc. that was worn on a special occasion or that was originally given as a gift years before you were born. Something with tradition. That’s a TFM.
