You sir have a very good taste in yachts! However we’re pretty big into fishing and Trinity does not make sportfisher’s.
But if you ever get the chance, try comparing a Bertram to something like a Viking or Buddy Davis; equally as beautiful boats but with their flat transom they’re not as smooth of a ride offshore. They’ll get on plane better and ride a few knots faster but they are a rough ride in big swells. Frat on sir!
I have finally met someone on this site that actually knows about yachting. Bertram is definitely the nicest out of the Viking, Hatteras, and Cabo line, but Buddy Davis is the least “commercially produced.” While your right about a smoother ride, the v shaped transom also increases the draft; this could make travel hazardous in some of the Bahamian Cays and Caribbean islands. Check out Trinity’s M/Y Mary P; it’s a 122 ft custom sport fish yacht, but it probably cost upwards of 10-15mil. Frat on.
We have friends that own a 58′ Buddy Davis in TX and others that have a 74′ Merritt. Those are probably the two nicest custom built one off fishing yachts I’ve ever fished on. (The fly bridge was probably worth more than most geeds homes!) Part of the reason we own a Bertam is for the bill fish tournaments we fish in the summer where running far offshore is critical. I’ve fished a tournament where the Calcutta was over 1 mil and the winner was a Viking that ran over 120 miles offshore and ended coming in with one engine pushed to full throttle since they cracked a piston in the other trying to get back in in time. Talk about getting beat to hell trying to get back to port! Our Hatt is very nice, but since I live we live in TX but keep the Hatt on the west coast for tuna season it’s sort of the “back up” boat. What do you own?
We have a 80′ Northern Marine expedition yacht, and a 32′ SeaVee that we use primarily for fishing. We’ll be down in San Juan in September for their International Billfish Tournament with both boats. Are you registering for any tourneys this summer?
Both beautiful yachts. I prefer hatteras since they are made to handle the waters of north carolina. Don’t know how you would slum it on a hatteras since they just beat Bertram in the hatteras Bertram showdown.
