Quick Survey: Is your chapter big on pledge names? Mine was; it would usually be very well thought out and stick for all 4 years. I know some fraternities aren’t big on pledge names. Where do you guys stand?
we named the best and worst pledges along with the current college football rankings. so the best pledge would be auburn, second best oregon, and so on.
Each pledge is nicknamed by their big about 5 weeks in. It may suck but is still their official nickname. I’d say 1/5 are actually called by their nickname.
Brother, some of us have it set up that way so we can set up family lines within the chapter, most of them with their own traditions that are secrets within the family. My family in our chapter does it that way and I know a lot of other chapters here have a family system of some sort so… chill.
As for our pledge names, most of them stick, or they get changed to the one that sticks before pledging ends (big brothers choose in our chapter as well). Mine was originally Beaker (from the muppets) but now it’s pretty much “Ginger” or “Goddamn Ginger”. Some variation of that. Someone also suggested “Token” around the time I was pledging in 09.
I’m known for my nickname than my real name at my fraternity. Name comes from general vote within chapter near end of pledge semester, but big brothers will offer input on names to fit family tradition
It means you’ve probably never done anything memorable if you don’t have a nickname.
