This has been said dozens of times before in different ways. Let’s make this one the last.

Holy Fucking Shit. It was released today that: 36% of Alabama’s population is living on food stamps. How is this possible? Any residents want to chime in? Is it really that bad?

Alabama has it’s upper class cities and areas. However, anyone who has lived here their whole life knows that we don’t exactly have the most money as a state. I don’t know the normal average of citizens on food stamps, but I would venture to guess that many people are now on food stamps due to the tragedy involving the tornadoes. My dad and I just finished up work on a house that was destroyed by a tree that was blown down during the storms. The lady that lived there was forced to go on food stamps. In terms of being “frat” having all these people on food stamps looks bad, but I am hesitant to judge due to what the tornadoes did to our state. Tuscaloosa was hit hard. Another town that was hit hard was a town called Hackleburg that employed thousands by means of a Wrangler Jeans plant that the storms destroyed. Birmingham was also hit along with many other small towns that didn’t get alot of media attention due to Osama being killed a week later. I’m not saying you were trying to be a dick by pointing the food stamps issue out, but think of all the people who’s lives were torn apart before you take that 36% number to heart. There is still a long road to recovery ahead.

I hope your state lands on its feet. The media coverage of the disaster’s aftermath seems to be non-existent now. It’s a real shame.

As a fellow Alabamian, I would concur that the Tornados have probably jacked the number up, but there are also a LOT of low-income minorities that populate this state. In terms of sheer wealth, I would wager that Huntsville is at the top of list, with the Arsenal, and the Space and Rocket Center being there. Huntsville has weak spots, but it is nothing compared to Birmingham (excluding the hoover and oak mountain areas), even moreso Montgomery. I would still venture between 10-15% of our residents are on food stamps, without the tornados adding to it by the hard-working families who HAVE to be on stamps now.

I appreciate it sir. I didn’t mean to sound bitter about not getting coverage. But after the most wanted man alive is killed, tornadoes in the south are small potatoes. People here are still working their asses off to get back to normal. The house that my dad re-did was all charity and he was just one of many contractors that he knows of to do work for free. Like I said, it will be a while, but I believe that with all the good-hearted, hard-working people here, we’ll be alright.

^first of all, are you really so bottom tier you have to ripoff someone else’s name?

Second, If you don’t approve of Alabama, that’s A-OK. We don’t like you either. But seriously, we were discussing a tragedy that affects a part of our country. Sorry, but if an earthquake rocked California, as much as I hate the West coast, I wouldn’t have to heart to joke about it. Classless troll is classless.

Motion to fix the shitty post system by having a “Moderate” tab and letting the users, not the pledges, vote on the posts. If a post gets a certain number of “nice moves,” it gets posted.

Why can’t there be a “like” or “dislike” button on the comments section like other websites? It would help with the worsening troll situation.
