riiight, since so many american citizens, for example MANY elderly and disabled, would be competely shit out of luck if not for social security. Does it need reform? Absolutely. Was the entire program a ponzi scheme? No. Even the other candidates on stage gave him a WTF look. NF

    3. Keynes is a GDI

It is currently a ponzi scheme because SS will be bankrupt in less than a decade without major reforms. Those in their 20’s and 30’s now won’t see any of the money they put in when they reach retirement age. He is right. SS is simply one of FDR’s retarded, bone-headed creations of the 1930’s.

No. Perry said the entire program and idea was a ponzi scheme. That includes any adjustments or reforms made to it. Were you simply not listening?

In social security’s current state, it is a ponzi scheme for anyone who is more than a few years away from retirement. We pay into it but will never see a dime of that. We get no reward. Our money goes down the drain.

what the fuck is wrong with you? its called the social contract and the well being of all american citizens. The social contract? That’s your argument? The social contract is a farce. Hobbs was a genius, but that doesn’t mean I agree with him on everything. It’s not my responsibility to save you from your fuck ups. Jesus Christ, SS has been around for less than 100 years, what the fuck did people do before then? They saved up for a time when they were too old to work! To quote Daniel Tosh: “Social Security was set at 65 because you died at 66.” It shouldn’t be my concern that you didn’t prepare for the future.

Children are an investment. If you put a ton of money into them, they should turn around and support you in your old age. If they choose to let you pay for shit on your own your whole life, then they shouldn’t be surprised when they have to pay for their own nursing home.

If you don’t have children, you have absolutely no reason to have no money saved for retirement. Period. Fuck social security.

I can’t believe the lack of compassion and respect for the elderly in this thread. My grandfather, rest his soul, worked his ass off in factories to provide for my dad and give him a better chance at life with a degree from a respectable college. I’ll be damned if he didn’t deserve the minimal help he got from social security.

RahDelt, if social security hadn’t taken that money, your Grandfather still would have had it, and could have been investing it somewhere where it would have grown, instead of taking the hit from inflation. That said, y’alls cookies are ready 🙂

Rick Perry has no chance. If he wins the nomination, Obama is basically handed a landslide. Rick Perry is an uneducated man, who doesn’t have the intellectual capability to run the country. Jon Huntsman and to an extent Mitt Romney are the only candidates that could beat Obama. Rick Perry could not go into states that Obama won an pick off almost 100 electoral votes. Its simple math.

14 years ago at 10:17 pm
    1. Fratologist

^ This. Perry doesn’t even have the support of a large portion of the Republican voters in his own state. He is going to have a hell of a time winning states up north and out west.

14 years ago at 10:44 pm
    2. Frat OClock

No matter who the republican candidate is, if they hire someone with half a brain to run their campaign they’ll have a shot to win. This election is going to be run on a platform of ‘no matter how stupid you may think I am, there’s no way I can mess things up as bad as the current president.’

14 years ago at 11:12 pm
    3. Boston BroSox

I mean, you could say that about any candidate in any race. Rick Perry could have the greatest political minds running his campaign, but with statements like he made tonight, not even the best could fix that.

    4. Davy Crockett

Wrong wrong wrong BroSox. Perry has a very strong conservative stance and that is exactly what will help him defeat Obama. He is not “uneducated” and has run the state of Texas better than Obama has run the country. He obviously has the intellectual capability to run the country. Huntsman and Romney are both big-government liberals and that is why they would lose. They are just Obama-lites. Perry is destroying the other Republicans in the polls and if you think he does not have popular support you are just refusing to see it. As for saying that people in Texas don’t like him that much… do you think they would pick Obama over him? Give me a break.

^ You obviously haven’t noticed how the state of Texas is literally currently burning to the ground, has an awful deficit, and has a very high rate of teen pregnancy and STDs, all due largely in part to Perry’s policies.

14 years ago at 11:30 pm
    6. Davy Crockett

You’re right. It’s ALL Rick Perry’s fault. Every little goddamn bit of it.

Somehow I doubt the wildfires are a direct result of his policies. But hey, what do I know? I’ve only lived in Texas for all my life. When you can explain to me why Americans and American businesses are moving to Texas by the thousands, then maybe you can play politics with the big boys.

And give me a break with the STD/teen pregnancy bullshit. This is a problem in every single big city in the USA, and the fact that the Mexicans down here refuse to use condoms because the Catholic Church disallows it only makes the problem worse. As if Perry’s economic policies are going to cause widespread teen pregnancy in the US. That’s a culture problem courtesy of the New Deal and Great Society programs. But I’m sure you know ALL about those.

14 years ago at 12:17 am
    7. Frat OClock

I’m not a Perry supporter, but you’re omitting some important facts in that comment. 1) If Texas ‘burning to the ground’ was caused by Perry, then you probably believe that Bush caused Katrina. 2) There have been numerous budgets passed in Texas over the last year to tackle that deficit. 3) While it’s been proven that abstinence sex ed doesn’t work, it isn’t the only factor that contributes to high rates of teen pregnancy. The 1 & 2 states for teen pregnancy are New Mexico and Texas, respectively. The 1 & 2 states with the highest Hispanic % of population? New Mexico and Texas, respectively. You can call it a spurious relationship, but most people won’t agree with you.

One last thing, if you have a child that gets pregnant/has a kid as a teenager are you going to expect everyone around you to blame the sex education used in the school your kid goes to for them having a kid? If you do, you need to learn to not depend on government so much and take some responsibility for yourself. Only the most left leaning parent would blame the government and public education for their kid getting knocked up.

14 years ago at 1:21 am
    8. CandC

He cut 3/4 of his aid for firefighters. Are you fucking retarded? I’m not arguing that he CAUSED the wildfire, I’m saying the continued existence of the fire IS DIRECTLY related to his policy.

Yes, and it’s been working as well as Obama’s policies for the entire country. I.E. not at all.

As for the Mexicans comment, wow, could you please be more racist? That generalization is completely worthless for the sake of holding up your point. Catholics aren’t as apt to shun birth control as they used to be.

You’re overgeneralizing again. In no way do parents have a right to say the school goofed with their kid’s education if their kid gets knocked up. This is a broader picture, where people are taking a look at the cause and effect of education policy. This isn’t parents knocking down doors, it’s lawyers and politicians.

Davy, let me start by pointing out that you’re an idiot. For all intents and purposes, the governor of Texas is a talking head. The Lt. Gov. is the most powerful person in Texas and way more responsible for texas’ current economic well-being than perry. mitt Romney is not a big-government liberal. He’s a self-made businessman who has actually been responsible for creating tens of thousands of jobs. Perry had to drop from veterinary medicine his sophomore year because he was making shitty grades. Do you know how hard it is to make shitty grades at a&m? If there’s one person in this race who has an idea how to right america’s current economic situation, it’s mitt romney. He can compromise. While I’m sure everyone on this site thinks that’s the worst thing in the world, it’s precisely what our country needs right now. And as for perry “destroying the other republicans in the polls,” he’s currently 2nd behind Romney. Educate yourself, dumbass.

iRage, I am so sorry. Thank you for pointing out to me and the rest of the world how stupid I am. Sometimes I forget that I am a complete imbecile and should never talk about politics because I know nothing about how my own state is run.

Do you really think Romneycare would have been created and implemented by a real conservative? Stop kidding yourself. Romney is not as liberal as Obama, but how do you think he got elected in Massachusetts? Not by being a small-government conservative. He may be a self-made businessman, but on the other hand, so is George Soros. By the way, before the debate Perry was leading in the polls, and that is where I was getting my numbers from. I posted that last night, not this morning.

Judging by your lack of sound argument and inclination to resort to personal attacks, I’m going to guess that you go to the University of Houston (if you are from Texas). And that you got in off of the wait list.

^^ You’re an idiot if you refuse to draw the line connecting abstinence-only education and one of the highest teen pregnancy rates in the country compared with other states that have other forms of sex education. Perry refuses to to allow schools to do anything because “hey, well it worked for me!”
