Drinking and driving was just a bad idea. I switched to a 3-iron. TFM

Being 2 up on the final hole, hitting driver into the woods and losing the US Open by a stroke. TFTC. Playing safe. NF.

If you have to switch from a driver to a 3-iron, it’s not just a bad idea. You shouldn’t be allowed on the course.

Glad you agree that people should learn something about a game before they play it.

Not all holes demand a long shot off the tee. A strategic drive is sometimes the better play rather than “bomb and gouge,” same idea as opportunity costs or some economic bullshit like that. If you watch the PGA you’ll see this occasionally. Truth is, during a weekend round while getting drunk with the gentlemen, you will be labeled a poon if you don’t try to knock the tits off the the Titleist with the big bitch. The joke is still dumb.

^^^^ You missed the point. You examine the hole and conditions before you take the club out. There’s nothing wrong with a strategic shot. You’re just wasting time and look like an idiot when you jump the gun on club selection.

There’s a difference between being a scratch golfer or caddy wannabe and knowing how not to slow down a group so much that other people ask to play through. Basically anyone who’s swung a golf club more than once should know to size up a hole before they grab their club.
