Best Campus Blackout Restaurants: Gainesville
The University of Florida in Gainseville is one of the largest schools in the nation. Boasting a formidable athletic program, Florida is constantly in the spotlight for football, basketball, baseball, and nearly every other NCAA sport. With so many major victories throughout the year, Gators find plenty of excuses to party hard.
When the students of Florida do party, there is only one spot in many people’s minds to grab late-night, bowel-busting fare. Munchies 420, located across the street from campus, provides delicious food to students. Munchies 420 is perfect for the inebriated college kid – good food, fair prices, and provides delivery if you’re too far gone to make the hike. So, what makes this place such a must-visit after an alcohol-filled evening out?
Munchies 420 offers “Fat Sandwiches,” similar to Big Bite in Austin, including the “Fat Daddy” loaded with hamburger, cheesesteak, chicken fingers, mozzarella sticks and condiments. Another popular sandwich is the “Fat Sandy,” which is loaded with two cheeseburgers, macaroni and cheese, onion hoops, mozzarella sticks, and chicken fingers. One of the biggest draws to Munchies 420, though, is the “10 Fire-in-Your-Hole Wing Challenge,” featured on Man Vs. Food. Complete this challenge in under 10 minutes, and you get your picture on the “Wall of Pain.” If unsuccessful, though, your picture instead goes on the “Wall of Shame.” It has been said 95% of people utterly fail the 10-wing challenge. Man Vs. Food host Adam Richman has said these wings were “the hottest thing (he’s) ever tasted,” and failed in his attempt to win. Coming from a man whose job it is to eat, you know it’s going to be rough.
Next time you’re down in Florida, be sure to check out Munchies 420. A great environment, great food, and a challenge to your manhood await inside this popular, late-night, blacked out destination. If you’re ever partying in Sarasota, be sure to check out the original, although the Gainesville location is the superior spot.

13 years ago at 10:54 pmWho ever suggested Munchies 420 is the best blackout restaurant in Gainesville is a fucking fool. The only people there are geeds. Every frat star knows that Pizza By The Slice (aka Italian Gator) is the fucking play every time. Take this post down. I expected better, TFM.
13 years ago at 3:31 pma column about Pizza by the Slice would be pretty short and boring
13 years ago at 3:33 pmAgreed, although a Relish burger is a good alternative too.
13 years ago at 3:36 pmI live in midtown. I blackout on the reg. Munchies sucks ass. It’s all about Relish, Flaco’s and Pizza by the Slice.
13 years ago at 3:46 pm^ This guy gets it
13 years ago at 3:55 pmHow can you guys forget the sketch Checkers on 10th st?
13 years ago at 7:38 pm^ Why would you go to a shitty checkers when you have that new Bella Donna’s two doors to the right of Mother’s across the street? Go there and try their buffalo chicken pizza or buffalo chicken sandwich and tell me it’s not the most delicious thing you’ve tasted in Gainesville.
I do agree though that Munchies kind of sucks and is filled with gdi’s. Their prices aren’t really great at all either. It is easier to write a column on Munchies than pizza by the slice but when you consider the street long line when the bars get out at pizza by the slice vs. the typical line at munchies you’ll agree most people prefer the slice. In my opinion though this column should be rewritten after taking Bella Donna’s into consideration, that place is amazing: 1 dollar pizza slices, and as I said before, that amazing buffalo chicken among other great plates makes that place amazing. Being open until 3 or 4am doesn’t hurt either.
13 years ago at 9:18 pmMunchies is fueg drunk food, pizza by the slice is mediocre pizza for like what $2.50 a slice? It’s a mediocre pizza stand.

13 years ago at 3:47 pmUF is great at sports? I didn’t realize loosing in baseball, going 7-6 in football, and not even being talked about in basketball was a good sports school? Oh and only nerds go to UF.
13 years ago at 3:58 pmLoosing? I hate UF but even I’ll admit they have one hell of a history in athletics dumbass. “Not even being talked about in basketball”? Are you retarded?
13 years ago at 4:02 pmI believe he is one of those retarded ass retards.
13 years ago at 4:16 pmOh right, cuz winning the espy award Capital One Cup for best men’s collegiate sports program means we Gators have bad sports. Dumbass.
