Science Proves That Pop Music is Officially All the Same Shit
Ever heard a new dubstep song or a new #1 hit single and instantly thought, “Wow, that song is complete shit.” Well science, finder of gravity and creator of birth control, agrees with you.
In Spain researchers used a massive song archive, known as the “Million Song Dataset,” to analyze audio and lyrical content from 1955 to 2010 into data. The findings were clear. “We found evidence of a progressive homogenization of the musical discourse. In particular, we obtained numerical indicators that the diversity of transitions between note combinations – roughly speaking chords plus melodies – has consistently diminished in the last 50 years.”
Yes, this means music has become decreasingly unique at an alarming rate. Also discovered was the fact that general “pop” music is intentionally played louder and is considerably more plain. Genres such as rap and country have progressed in complexity and creativity, but pop has been noticeably diminishing in both aspects.
So the next time you hear a new Black Eyed Peas song and think it sounds exactly the same as all the other shit you hear, you’re right.

I’ve been saying this for years, I’m glad there’s finally sufficent evidence to support my arguement.

13 years ago at 12:34 pmI would say that the Black Keys are one of the few new good bands except for one thing:
They’re not new, it’s that they became popular relatively recently. But they are one of the few artists still holding onto what we have left
