Actress Says Putting Your Arm Around A Woman Implies Ownership, Is Sexist

Don’t even think about putting your arm around girls, you sexist pigs.

At least that’s what British actress Helen Mirren says. The 70-year-old told the Daily Mail’s “You Mag” that a man putting his arm around a woman signifies “ownership.”

It annoys me when I see men with an arm slung round their girlfriend’s shoulders. It’s like ownership. Of course, when you’re young, you want the guy to take your hand and look after you. But when I see girls being leaned on, I want to say, ‘Tell him to get his damned arm off your shoulder.’

The absolute nerve of these terribly inconsiderate men.

Mirren, who’s starred in major movies like Eye In The Sky, The Queen, and Woman In Gold is known as an outspoken proponent for women’s rights in Hollywood, so these comments coming from her aren’t terribly surprising.

She normally fights for very noble causes including wage equality and ageism in the industry, but this latest comment is one she can probably put toward the bottom of the priority list.

National Review reporter and Fox News contributor Katherine Timpf (you may remember her as the hot Chi O that defended the Alabama sorority video) even points out the irony in Mirren’s comments:

I am intrigued how her next meet and greet with fans will go. It’ll likely be Avril Lavigne levels of awkward.

So just know, next time you want to show your affection to a fine young lady, go with the gentle ass slap and invite them to do it right back. Equal treatment for all..
