This was not a TFM interview. In fact, he’s railing this precise demographic of privileged young men and women. He calls our generation a “bunch of self-entitled monsters.” Why is this on here?
EXACTLY….this web site in particular is FILLED with ‘self-entitled monsters’. As as earlier poster on here said:
‘Entitlement is all over our generation, whether you occupy Wall Street or get hooked up with a job because your dad knows somebody.’
How many people who use this site are busting their ass in school as opposed to coasting through and relying on their degree or connections to do all the work for them in the real world?
How many of you are willing to work your ass off at a shit job after school because you can’t find anything better?
Everyone thinks they’re set for life because they party their ass off and adderall-binge their way to some decent grades, when in reality their college degree will likely be nothing more than a ‘participation trophy.’
^+3pts. hard work will always pay off. Even if you are lucky enough to have successful role models that you can look up to, you must realize the hard work it took to be successful. I respect a humble person that works his ass off more than a snobby prick who gets that “participation trophy” of a degree.
Equating a college degree to a participation trophy is a spot-on observation. Distancing ourselves from the problem (“my daddy’s a lawyer,” so I’ll be fine), isn’t going to prevent what is becoming America’s first real trend of downward mobility. Everybody insists that they’re the exception. If you were, you’d probably be the varsity quarterback at Harvard. If you’re not, and you’re someone who refused to major in physics ’cause of the stigma and the time commitment, then wipe that cocky grin off your face and start hitting the books and applying your knowledge.
Having said that, don’t fear too much, because Carolla is just talking out of his a.ss. I’m pretty sure that the participation trophy thing isn’t responsible, since it never actually boosted anybody’s self-esteem. Well, at least not for anybody whose IQ is over 75. In fact, a college degree is probably the first salient and effective form it’s ever taken.
this is stupid. he is bitching more than anyone he is talking about…
