Mobile is one of few cities in the South that has both White and Black old money families. Such as our Caucasian counterparts, being a black man with a last name such as mine simply means you live a certain lifestyle, dress a certain way, drive a certain car, go to certain schools, vacation certain places, attend certain events of society, join certain clubs (and/or Mardi Gras societies) and marry into certain families. Being a graduate of St. Ignatius Catholic (In the Springhill District by the way), McGill Toolen Catholic High, and a student at The University of Alabama, Black societal member of Mobile by birthright, and Former Mardi Gras King (a great honor in our beautiful city) believe me, I KNOW HIGH CLASS. Mobile, Alabama IS High Class, and is the definition of “Prep” in this state.
