Another ATΩ Chapter Forgoes Spring Break For Charity

Again, we’re proud to report another selfless story of brothers bonding together for a common cause that will pay dividends in helping the lives of others.

Similar to the story Dorn reported a week ago, another ATΩ chapter, this time hailing from Troy University, chose to incorporate some inspiring charitable initiatives into their spring break travels.

Per AL.com:

The members of Alpha Tau Omega fraternity walked more than 140 miles from the quad at Troy University to Panama City Beach’s Pier Park over the course of six days this week. The program, Walk Hard, raises money and awareness for Special Olympics.

Utilizing the possibly Dewey Cox inspired slogan, this was the fourth year that cleverly-named philanthropy saw the brothers from Troy make a trek to PCB. The inaugural “Walk Hard” took place in 2010, and has seen a multitude of charities benefit from the brothers’ commitment to the endeavor.

This year, ten brothers set out from the quad in Troy, AL on Friday morning of last week and finally made it to the Gulf of Mexico around 4:30p.m. yesterday, where they were greeted by friends, family, and representatives of the Special Olympics, as well as PCB’s Mayor, Gayle Oberst.

“I think it’s great what they did,” Oberst said. “It’s a perfect example of what good things college students are capable of.”

You got that right, Gayle. Cheers to you, guys.

In all, the Taus’ journey, which saw them cover close to 25 miles per day, raised over $5,000 for the Special Olympics programs across Alabama and Florida. They continue to accept donations year round through social media means and WalkHard.org.

Now that the journey is over, some of the brothers will stay in Panama City Beach to enjoy the beaches during what’s left of their vacation. Some had to immediately return to Troy to attend to baseball coaching sessions and ROTC obligations before classes start.

Hell of a commitment.

Generously sacrificing your time to help breed positivity in the lives of those less fortunate. RFM.

It’s okay, this guy is probably the boner of his chapter that doesn’t do anything for it…in any way.
