Arizona State Doesn’t Want Fans Painting Their Faces Black At Annual Blackout Game Because It’s An “Inclusive University”

Arizona State is politely reminding its student body not to wear black face-paint to its annual “blackout game” against Colorado on Saturday because it is an “inclusive and forward-thinking university.”

From ASU Athletics:

As an inclusive and forward-thinking university, it is important for us to foster an environment in which everyone feels safe and accepted. Therefore, we discourage the use of face paint at any event, whether the theme is black, maroon, gold or white, and ask our fans to show their Sun Devil Pride in other ways.

We look forward to working with all of Sun Devil Nation on continuing to show our support in ways that all of us can appreciate and embrace.

I know what you’re thinking: face-paint is inherently racist so of course this is a problem. I mean, you are painting your body a different color to support your football team which is absolutely all about racial injustice!

Well, forgive me for being ignorant, but I remember a time when painting your face for a “blackout game” wasn’t about race at all. It was about creating a raucous environment and creating an edge for your football team. Oh, I see now. That is racist. My mistake.

Perhaps ASU should move to an ambiguous gray and white color scheme as to not offend anyone with its uniforms. Also, “Sun Devils?” Some of us aren’t religious and would prefer a more wholesome name at a public university, please.

ASU won’t punish fans for wearing face-paint, but it will shame you for not being a forward-thinking member of society. Come on — grow up. The world is evolving, man. This is bigger than football.

Enjoy your blackout game on Saturday, ASU fans. It won’t be long before that’s taken away, too.

That’s almost as bad as UT’s pronoun shit. It’s getting out of hand and flat out ridiculous.

At least UT’s president said that it wasn’t an official university publication. Just some bat-shit crazy professor.

I could easily see some white kid painting his face black and the media turning it into some unnecessary clusterfuck even though there were no racist intentions.

Call me ignorant but I never even knew “blackface” was a thing until the dumbass media made a huge fuss out of it. They’re just looking to entice everyone now and make literally anything and everything offensive. Pretty soon me typing will be offensive because deaf people can’t hear the pretty sounds.

Nope got a 4 on the AP History test. My bad I’m not in tune with racist America apparently. Must be above my pay grade.

Ulysses S. Grant owned several slaves until it was abolished by Missouri in 1865. Robert E. Lee had several his Father-In-Law gave him, but after his FIL’s passing all Robert E. Lee’s slaves were freed in 1862. Funny how “history” works, isn’t it?

Would be even less surprising if the media concludes with absolutely no basis that the kid is in a frat even if he’s a geed

I also get offended when soldiers paint camo on their faces because I am first and foremost an arborist

This makes me want to fly out to ASU and paint my face black just to piss people off. Our country is crumbling.

The use of the nickname “Devils” is offensive to satanists so I’m pretty sure they should ban that as well.

I fully expect PSU to do the same for their “whiteout game” against Michigan.. Or is that a double standard?
