Arizona State Doesn’t Want Fans Painting Their Faces Black At Annual Blackout Game Because It’s An “Inclusive University”
Arizona State is politely reminding its student body not to wear black face-paint to its annual “blackout game” against Colorado on Saturday because it is an “inclusive and forward-thinking university.”

From ASU Athletics:
As an inclusive and forward-thinking university, it is important for us to foster an environment in which everyone feels safe and accepted. Therefore, we discourage the use of face paint at any event, whether the theme is black, maroon, gold or white, and ask our fans to show their Sun Devil Pride in other ways.
We look forward to working with all of Sun Devil Nation on continuing to show our support in ways that all of us can appreciate and embrace.
I know what you’re thinking: face-paint is inherently racist so of course this is a problem. I mean, you are painting your body a different color to support your football team which is absolutely all about racial injustice!
Well, forgive me for being ignorant, but I remember a time when painting your face for a “blackout game” wasn’t about race at all. It was about creating a raucous environment and creating an edge for your football team. Oh, I see now. That is racist. My mistake.
Perhaps ASU should move to an ambiguous gray and white color scheme as to not offend anyone with its uniforms. Also, “Sun Devils?” Some of us aren’t religious and would prefer a more wholesome name at a public university, please.
ASU won’t punish fans for wearing face-paint, but it will shame you for not being a forward-thinking member of society. Come on — grow up. The world is evolving, man. This is bigger than football.
Enjoy your blackout game on Saturday, ASU fans. It won’t be long before that’s taken away, too.

The real reason they are banning face paint is so the police can identify who is actually black so they can fuck with them more.
10 years ago at 4:27 pmDid Devry Guy up Steve’s comment cause no way people on here actually did so
10 years ago at 4:36 pmMac: A lot of great actors have done blackface.
Dennis: There’s countless examples of very classy actors doing black face. We got the great C. Thomas Howell in Soul Man. We got the Wayans Brothers in White Chicks. That was a very tasteful example of reverse blackface.
10 years ago at 4:49 pmThe biggest joke is that we’ve had three separate football game themes already this year (whiteout, goldout, and Maroon Monsoon) and they haven’t enforced face paint but as soon as the blackout comes around they go all PC about it. Even the school sponsored pre-game events on campus have face paint stations. ASU is just PC overreacting
10 years ago at 4:58 pm1.) We aren’t allowed to wear facepaint because a cultural group got offended after the blackout game last year.
2.) Someone actually did start a petition on change.org to get ASU to change our mascot.
3.) I chalk it up to the pussification of America.

10 years ago at 8:44 pmTheir mascot is basically a caricature of Satan, yet they’re worried about causing offense with black face paint? Epic!
