Australian Snipers In Afghanistan Domed A Taliban Commander From Almost Two Miles Away

The Aussies may be the descendants of blithering alcoholics, but the modern-day mates in the Australian Special Forces seem to possess an exceptionally accurate shot.

According to reports, a crew of snipers from the Australian Defense Force Delta Company of 2 Commando Regiment were perched atop what I assume to be some high ground in Helmand Province Afghanistan when they witnessed a few Taliban militants leisurely strolling to jihad. The men were approximately 2,815 meters away, which is invisible to the naked eye. After a few calls to their commanders, a deep breath or two, and quick fart to let the anxiety escape, the snipers pulled the trigger and dropped some asshole that couldn’t even hear the shot that ultimately released his brains from their cranial captivity.

From Examiner:

Through binoculars at a distance invisible to the naked eye they spotted a group of Taliban. The soldiers having means of identifying targets went through a process of obtaining verification and permission to engage. Two marksmen using Barrett M82A1 50 caliber rifles simultaneously fired. The bullets were six seconds in the air. One killed the Taliban commander. It is not known for certain which sniper fired the fatal shot. While there have been no triumphant press releases, in the tight global Special Forces sniper community the shot is much discussed, because it seems certain to be a world record.

And it was the longest six seconds of the operator’s life. The conversation that led to the approval of such a shot must’ve been great. There is not a doubt in my mind that the commanders figure at best he gets close enough to make him shit his robe, and the worst he could do was miss entirely. There was no way they were seriously considering the possibility that their men were going to wax his ass from 30 football fields away. Those boys proved their worth and training in a big way, and are now the new world record holders.

The previous record for longest fatal sniper shot was held by a British sniper, who killed two Taliban in 2009 from 2,475 meters away.

All-in-all, I’m sure it was just another day at the office.

Just for the record: if confirmed that would be the longest kill by 370 meters.
