Best Campus Blackout Restaurants: Oxford

The University of Mississippi is legendary for partying. Consistently ranked among the best party schools in the nation, the students of Ole Miss tend to destroy their livers worse than Tiger destroys diner waitresses. Perhaps the greatest element of the state of Mississippi, though, is the fact that every gas station and convenience store sells fried goodness. That being said, one joint stands above the rest as the ultimate blackout munchy spot.

That joint is none other than the “4 Corners Chevron,” just a stones throw from campus and the bars of Oxford Square. According to TFM user PeteSamprasFrat “only GDI nut jobs call it 4 Corners Chevron,” and the proper name is “Chicken on a Stick,” highlighting the premier menu item.

At Chicken on a Stick you can expect to find typical southern fried meals, including potato logs and chicken tenders. The signature “chicken on a stick” meal is the only worthwhile grub though, consisting of roughly the same amount of calories as four Big Macs with Krispy Kreme buns. It’s a clusterfuck of fried chicken thrown together on a skewer that’s around the size of 4 chicken tenders. It’s harder to keep in one piece that it is to finish, a task that the blacked out individual has an extremely difficult time with.

Chicken on a Stick is the local meet up spot for most students. If you lose your friends at the bar, Chicken on a Stick is the place to find each other for more blackout shenanigans and munching. Because it’s one of the most popular food spots in all of Oxford, it’s common to see a huge line form the minute the lights go on. It’s fame was even highlighted in BonAppetit.com’s “8 Unexpected Spots Across the U.S. with Great Food.”

Next time you’re in Oxford, be sure to visit Chicken on a Stick. Cheap, delicious, and devastating to your insides, it’s a spot that your blacked out self will absolutely love and perhaps regret more than hooking up with a beluga whale the next morning.
