Boston University Suspends Kappa Sigma For Being Normal Dudes, Promoting A Party With Hot Chicks

The PC police are out again, this time at Boston University. Kappa Sigma has been suspended for promoting a party using images and videos that were deemed “demeaning to women.” Kappa Sig co-hosted the party with the event planning group “Blackout University” in downtown Boston at the Royale Nightclub — back on Dec. 10, 2014.

From The Boston Globe:

The Kappa Sigma fraternity chapter, Mu Psi, also allegedly used the university’s name in marketing for the event without authorization from the school.

Online promotional materials for the party included a link to a website with pictures and video of “a culture of abusive behavior that openly celebrates verbal sexual coercion, belittling women, grabbing, groping, forced kissing, and the badgering of women for sex,” John Battaglino, assistant dean of students, wrote to the fraternity’s leadership in a Feb. 6 letter.

“Promotion photos for the party showed close-ups of women kissing open-mouthed, women’s bare breasts, and women’s buttocks, among other images,” according to BU Today, the university’s news website.

Battaglino apparently sent a letter to Kappa Sigma on Feb. 6, which notified the chapter that the university no longer recognized the fraternity as a student organization. This entails that the chapter can no longer use campus facilities, sponsor events, or, most importantly, recruit new members.

Sure, Kappa Sig may have included the university’s name while marketing the event, but how else are people going to know which chapter is responsible for such an awesome party? No one knows that these guys make up the Mu Psi chapter other than the Mu Psi brothers themselves. They were just advertising to a much broader audience.

I’m not seeing the problem here. Sex sells. That’s, like, Marketing 101. You can only show so much B-roll of mid-shelf liquor shots being poured or the DJ pretending to be doing anything other than clicking play on his laptop. If I don’t see some chick twerking her little heart out within the first five seconds, I’m not even giving the rest of your promotional video a chance — let alone the actual party.

Wow great. First they do this. Next thing you know, they’ll start banning fraternities from having a pledge process–oh wait.

But if they made a video featuring dudes hooking up instead of chicks, the school’s administration would celebrate them for open-mindedness

Not sure why the University can suspend Kappa Sig for this and then not even discuss the video of their star hockey player Jack Eichel (kid is the next Manziel), who is 18 years old, chugging a beer out on video. Shouldn’t there be a punishment for him, who is also technically endorsing the university, literally illegally drinking on video? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OUDmfdTxLew

NPHC organizations on my campus exclusively participate in these activities and are lauded for it. Not a single philanthropy or any type of event that aren’t 1) At a night club 2) Sponsored by a nightclub/bar/alcohol brand or 3) a step show.

Meanwhile, I hear shit for giving out a free mixer to the sorority that donates the most to homeless people because it “promotes alcohol culture”.
