Bucknell TKE Raises Over $56K For Alzheimer’s Research During Annual Reagan Run
The brothers of Tau Kappa Epsilon at Bucknell University raised more than $56,000 for the Alzheimer’s Association during their annual Reagan Run, named for the president and member of the national fraternity who suffered from the terrible disease.
The 182-mile run started at Bucknell in Lewisburg, Pa., and ended in D.C. in front of the White House. Sixty members of the 83-man Beta Mu chapter split up into 18 teams, each responsible for covering a 10-mile stretch of the run. Each team would pass off a horseshoe — a fraternity symbol used in place of a baton — to the next team, relay-style. The other 13 were responsible solely for fundraising.
The run lasted from Oct. 8 to Oct. 11, which meant the guys sacrificed their fall breaks for the charitable cause.
The Reagan Run is not only a phenomenal way to raise money for TKE’s national philanthropy, but it helps to mend the increasingly negative Greek image in the eyes of the public, Brother Evan Miu tells USA Today College.
“Fraternities in general kind of get a bad rap. I mean, everyone’s seen the stories, and so anything that we can do to show that there are positives to Greek life”…
The whopping $56,000-plus total breaks the fraternity record. The chapter has raised over $300,000 for the Alzheimer’s Association since starting the charity in 2004 — more than any other TKE chapter in the nation..

10 years ago at 12:49 amIt’s a damn shame the good things fraternities do will never make main stream media. Make a pledge tie his own shoes and you’ll be front-lining CNN. Well done boys.
