Budweiser Petitioning To Make Baseball’s Opening Day A National Holiday

baseballholiday

Finally, Budweiser wants to make it socially acceptable for me to drink an irresponsible amount of Budweiser on a random weekday.

For cities like St. Louis, Boston, Chicago, Philadelphia, and many others, Major League Baseball’s Opening Day is already a holiday. On this glorious day, baseball is a legitimately acceptable excuse to miss work, skip appointments, abandon your children, or bail on whatever else you were supposed to do that isn’t as important as celebrating one of the most American events of the year.

Budweiser, with St. Louis Cardinals Hall of Fame shortstop Ozzie Smith at the helm of the campaign, has decided that this “unofficial” holiday needs to be legit. Smith and Budweiser petitioned the White House for official holiday status. Here’s a promotional video for the petition. Watch it and try not to get all turned on for America.

I swear to God, Obama, do something useful for me with your second term and make this happen. I don’t need your health insurance–TFM’s parent company, Grandex, already provides a better alternative, and all this health plan involves is plugging open, bleeding flesh wounds with factory defect Rowdy Gentleman tank tops.

To get official consideration, Budweiser’s petition needs 100,000 signatures from people 21 or older. They also need to hit that 100,000 mark by March 26, so go support this precious cause like the good American you are.

Baseball’s Opening Day: definitely more important than Columbus Day.
