Chipper Jones Challenging An Army Vet To Fight On Twitter Is Not A Good Look

Screen Shot 2015-05-28 at 12.31.44 PM

Chipper Jones is a must follow on Twitter. Where most athletes or former ballplayers fill your timeline with the entertainment value of a church run family game night, Chipper constantly slings out fire flames. His feed ranges from Sandy Hook conspiracy theories to revolutionary solutions to solving illegal immigration with alligators, and now includes challenging army veterans to throw down, man to man.

As an Irish Catholic from the Northeast, holding grudges is inherent in my DNA, so I honestly can’t decipher if this guy is legitimately still bitter about Jones not signing an autograph seventeen years ago or if this is a straight troll job. Either way, the response by Chipper was on point. Essentially saying “I’m glad I didn’t give your punk ass eight-year-old self my signature,” just really sets the tone for where this would spiral down to. Also, I’m putting #keyboardclown in my back pocket for future use.

It’s all fun and games until Jones slips into the kid’s DMs. Classic case of when keeping it real goes wrong. Not a good look on the eight-time all star and former NL MVP to throw out “3 deployments don’t mean squat to me.”

Maybe sit the next few plays out, Chip.

Still not as bad as the disgraces that the Braves front office committed this offseason

It wasn’t bad at all in my opinion. First of all, they weren’t going to be able to sign Upton after this year, and for the money Heyward would want, they weren’t going to sign him either. Losing Kimbrel hurt but losing BJ Upton’s wet blanket of a contract was a huge win. Out of the Upton trade they got a couple young pitchers(who were 1st and 2nd round picks), plus a couple position players, and for the overrated Heyward they got Shelby Miller, which is a pleasant surprise so far and a huge upgrade. Bottom line is the Braves could have held on to Upton to make a winning effort this year but as the season goes on, his trade value wouldn’t have necessarily increased because teams would rather get a full season out of him before he hits FA, so the preseason trade got the Braves their most optimal return. If you want to hang on to guys like Upton and sign them to a massive contract, you’re gonna have to put a few more asses in the seats. Until then, the Braves are gonna have to play Oakland style baseball. A ton of pitching, and guys who get on base disregarding power.

If we don’t make any of those moves and keep all of those players I’m willing to bet the Braves have a worse record than 23-23. John Hart is the man. This team is going to be dangerous in a year or two. Plus, even though strikeouts aren’t as bad as some people make them out to be, seeing your team strike out and play for 3 run homers is really boring. I’ve been frustrated this season, but so far, not bored.

What Atlanta really needs is to upgrade their fanbase. A long-standing team in the deep south and they have expansion – team like attendance at Turner Field for home games? Even in the mid 2000s when the Atlanta was the only good thing to come out of the dumpster fire that was the NL East they still couldn’t sell out games. Such a shame.

People don’t understand, Red Sox fans are in Boston. Yankees fans are in New York City, Braves fans don’t live in Atlanta. They live AROUND IT. Nobody in Atlanta gives a fuck about the Braves, it’s the people in the surrounding areas that don’t wanna drive 3 hours for a game.

All I’m saying is that St. Louis is similar to Atlanta with a spread fanbase, but they still manage to fill Busch with ease.

St. Louis traffic is not Atlanta traffic. That makes a difference. I’ve only been to Atlanta a few times but If I remember correctly, Turner field is between downtown and the airport. Trying getting to a 7:05 game in that traffic. Can’t really compare the Braves to the Cards though. There is NOTHING within three hours of St. Louis that gives fans something to cheer about, not the Rams, not the Blues, and St. Louis people wont root for anything Kansas City. The Cardinals are it. If you’re from southern Illinois and you have an inferiority complex because you’re not Chicago(they all do), you’re a Cardinals fan. Anyone around Memphis(Cardinals AAA city) or the far western tip of Kentucky and the majority of Arkansas, all Cardinals fans. With the exception of Arkansas, college football hardly exists to these people. Mizzou I guess? But nothing deep seeded like the high school and college football fandom that has surrounded Atlanta and the deep south forever. Even though football and baseball aren’t played in the same season(for the most part), professional baseball just takes a back seat in Atlanta unlike St. Louis, and I don’t see that changing.

They’ll do better in the new Stadium. It’s in Cobb County, right north of Atlanta. About a stones throw from the Metro Atlanta Burbs so it will improve. I’ll be there opening day.

Being a veteran doesn’t give you an excuse to act like an assclown. Both guys seem like they suck.

Yea, I’ll give a vet a lot of leeway, but if you are a douchebag – you are a douchebag. That dipshit was probably gassing up the hummers while the real men went on towel-head patrol.

You can’t make assumptions like that. The man could have been a Ranger, either way you can’t spit on his service like that regardless of what an ass he might be today
