Clemson Suspends All Fraternity Social Events After Reported Sexual Assault By Non-Student At Delta Chi House Party

Clemson is putting a halt to all fraternity social activities until they get to the bottom of a sexual assault that is reported to have taken place at the Delta Chi house early Saturday morning.

The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office confirmed Tuesday the suspect in a reported sexual assault at a Clemson University fraternity house is not a Clemson student.

The incident is still under investigation, and no arrests have been reported. All Clemson fraternity social events are on pause due to the active case.

The Clemson University Police Department notified the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office around 12:30 a.m. Saturday about a reported sexual assault at the Delta Chi fraternity house on D Morris Way in Seneca, said Jimmy Watt, public information officer for the Sheriff’s Office.

If you’re going to allow non-members and/or non-students to attend parties at your fraternity house, you need to have eyes on them at all times. There is nothing more fun nor more dangerous than a college party, which is why the safety of all attendees must be looked out for vigilantly — especially when unfamiliar faces are involved.

Clemson’s Interfraternity Council President Landon Flowers said in a statement Sunday the council’s executive board met to discuss the alleged assault and is committed to “holding our members to a higher standard.”

This is a ban self-imposed by Clemson’s IFC that will presumably be lifted once they can figure out what happened and determine how to prevent it from happening again. Hopefully, as details emerge, the picture of what happened can become more clear so that we all can learn from it..
