College Football Playoff is Official

Like your pal Dorn reported last week, college football trashing the current BCS system in lieu of a 4-team playoff was imminent. Last week, the wide world of sports finally caught up to and subdued that pesky BCS bowl system after many years of hunting it down. With the upcoming meeting and fate of this much maligned system only a week away, the bowl system has been held at gun point pending its sentencing. Well, tonight it got its brains blown out.

The news became official on Tuesday evening after being approved by the Bowl Championship Series President Oversight Committee (they really need to shorten that name). The playoff format will be derived of the top four seeded teams in the nation as chosen by a selection committee.

“The hell’s gonna be in this selection committee?”

It’s undetermined at this point, and if I know college football fans like I think I do, this is the source of their future bellyaching. It will be a great challenge to contrive a non-partisan committee based on complete equality.

But still, crack a cold one. The greatest sport on earth just but better.

It’s about damn time a playoff system comes around. And as far as inter-collegiate shit talking goes, pure gold. This is a big one, gentlemen.

Becoming pals with anyone who reads your work. FaF.

I liked the old way of doing things (pre-BCS) but this seems like a good deal. Glad the Rose is still protected.

Haha, yeah, man, I’m a Big Ten slappy. But the Rose Bowl is a huge deal up here.

I’m an SEC boy, so I’ve obviously got my bias. My only real problem with the Big 10 is its infatuation with the past. Too much living in the past, in my opinion. Y’all had a great run, and still have some great teams (Wisconsin should be a favorite this year), but the league has not caught up to speed, literally and figuratively, with the SEC. That may be changing in terms of who is in charge, but it hasn’t manifested itself on the field, as of yet. But damn glad this playoff got pushed through.

I wonder what lame excuses all the “bottom-tier” conferences will have when the SEC wins it again.

(tough break Gamecocks, at least the SEC was at the dance)
