DKE Is Suing Wesleyan University Over The Whole “Coed Fraternities” Debacle
The fact that Wesleyan University in Connecticut is forcing all fraternities on campus to become coed within the next three years is laughably stupid. Joining a fraternity is a privilege — it’s not something everyone is entitled to. One fraternity on campus shares this sentiment, has found proper grounds on which to fight Wesleyan, and has filed a discrimination lawsuit against the school.
From CBS Connecticut:
Delta Kappa Epsilon said in a statement Thursday that it is seeking a temporary injunction in Superior Court after learning that students would not be given the option of housing at on-campus single-sex fraternities during the 2015-16 school year, the university’s student newspaper.
“Wesleyan DKE members and alumni stand united against discrimination in any form, seek injunction to restore student housing and prevent unwarranted abuse of power,” the press release reads, first reported by The Wesleyan Argus.
“Wesleyan embraces every other person’s right to live together based on gender, race, creed or sexual affiliation, but with the coeducation mandate in the fall this seems to not apply to us… Discrimination is wrong no matter what form it takes, and the university has unfairly singled us out in order to achieve their brand of ‘diversity.’” President of DKE Terence Durkin said, as reported by The Wesleyan Argus.
A spokesman for the fraternity’s alumni chapter calls the school’s decision “political correctness gone wrong.”
TL;DR: If fraternities don’t go coed, the university will not give students the option to live in their own house. DKE thinks that’s fucked up, and rightfully so.
First off, if you’re a chick who wants to join a fraternity, I’m questioning your sanity immediately. Subjecting yourself to inhabit the same conditions that any college-aged guy lives in is psychotic. Also, is there anything worse than the broad who desperately tries to be “one of the guys”? It’s not that you don’t get along with other girls, it’s just that you’re unbearable in general.
I love the fraternity spokesman essentially calling the school’s decision a bullshit PR stunt, which is exactly what it is. Hopefully, a judge sees that and puts an end to this joke..

I’m not quite sure what girl would want to subject themselves to living with a hundred drunk men. Well I do, but that’s a tale for another time.

11 years ago at 6:38 pmThere’s not much you can do when a school run by ultraliberal douches pulls the “we’re a private school, so we don’t have to respect our students’ freedom of association” card. Ironically, these schools are also the loudest voices about reforming how sexual assault cases are handled, and their “solution” is to force everybody into coed housing.
