So the U.S. Supreme Court has ruled that you have the right, under the First Amendment, to protest military funerals. I invite you to start your protest in my front yard, then we can see if your First Amendment is better than my Second Amendment. TFM.

  1. Rihanna Deserved It

anyone who has the balls to start a political protest at a soldier’s funeral deserves to be tarred and feathered and sent to guantanamo. you don’t have to agree with the war or administration to understand that the ritual of death is very tragic and sacred. i have friends and family in different branches of the armed forces, should they die in action if any motherfucker tries to protest i have no reservations in ending their misguided and unethical life. if these young soldiers weren’t in the military, regular and random motherfuckers would be, and i’m thankful that i don’t HAVE to serve my country because there are people better suited to do so volunteering for it. anyone that protests a funeral deserves death instantly.

(sorry its a rant, but this is something that makes me violently angry because i love this goddamn country)

Second. I have many family members in the military and I could not imagine what I would do if some fucking liberal hippy started protesting one of my family member’s funerals.

^ Third. I have and have had family in all branches of the military and I agree 100%

IFWT, though I am not condoning the roles of hippies in other protests, the Westboro Baptist Church is the party responsible for the military funeral protests. The WBC is, if anything, waaaaaay off to the fundamentalist right of the political spectrum.

Shame on the people who think it is ok to protest and say the awful things that the Phelps family says at military funerals. I would be heartbroken if they were to show up and disrespect my (or any) family and the Country in such a shameful way. Please let all our boys in uniform (and the women over there too) stay safe!! (I would really like to not go to any funerals for friends and family serving anytime soon…)

Fred Phelps protested my high school which I thought was bad, he deserves to be lynched if he thinks he should protest US soldiers funerals though.

You don’t have to support the war in order to support the troops, but protesting a military funeral, for any reason, is wrong. Throughout history, the ceremony of laying the dead to rest has been a sacred and holy event, even when on the battlefield. These people are only doing what they’re doing because it pisses so many people off and gets them publicity. If we want to see them gone, we can’t play into their game.

Props for a levelheaded response to this issue. I heard about a group of people that counter-protested the WBC with a fundraiser for the USO, which is pretty clever in my opinion. You can’t let a bunch of attention-seeking lunatics take advantage of people’s emotional vulnerability at a traumatic time like a funeral, because they’re always guarded. The know how people will think and act, and they don’t have any problem using that for their own private motives. It’s disgusting, but if we compromise on the Bill of Rights, then we’re compromising some of the most fundamental truths that the Founding Fathers declared for us.

That’s bullshit. How can you support the troops but not support the war? That’s like saying, “Hey, I support fire fighters, but I don’t support them putting out fires!”. It’s naive to say something like that. If a person supports the troops then they support the job they’re trying to do. If you disagree with what they’re doing overseas then you don’t support them, and you are a communist.

I think what he means is that he supports the troops, the spirit of the military and all that it stands for but not the irresponsible actions a government takes to risk lives of thousands of our bravest men to propagate their political agenda.

Really?? How do you support the troops but not the war they’re fighting? Your firefighting analogy is way off in left field.

You support the men who have volunteered to put their lives in harms way, for whatever cause our elected government decides is right, so that we personally don’t have to.

You can disagree with the rationale for sending him into combat, but if you call yourself a true American you never desert the troops.

Anyone who has the fucking nerve to protest a funeral, much less a military funeral, in which we honor the men and women who protect the rights( 1st AMENDMENT) we have in this country should go some where else and see how much their rights are respected.
(Quick Hint: they dont give a FUCK about you or what RIGHTS you think you have). Those persons should get the fuck out of the U.S. (move to one of the fucking terrorist infested countries that you think we shouldn’t be involved in). Then, after they torture and maim you (if they dont kill you) for what you believe in, you will realize that you are privileged enough to live in the greatest nation on this planet….TFM

I suggest that the 21 gun salute uses live ammo and aims at the protest. Of course this is all by accident

For the people who keep intermixing liberal and wbc, they are not the same. Not that I support liberals, but they are not the ones protesting funerals, they may protest the way, but I don’t think they would protest funerals. The WBC is the big issue and they are as far right as you can possibly get.
