Drew Brees Recalls Watching Matt Light Fight Four Purdue Sigma Nus During First Official Visit
Who knew that so many Super Bowl-caliber players started their collegiate football careers fighting at fraternity row? Former New England Patriots offensive lineman Matt Light supposedly made quite the first impression on now New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees back in the day at Purdue.
On Wednesday, Brees sat down with a Boston radio station at the Super Bowl and recalled the first time he met Matt Light at Purdue. In brief, Brees first spotted Light spilling out of Purdue’s Sigma Nu fighting four guys at once. Sounds about right.
Nothing creates a better brotherhood than jumping into a good old fashioned brouhaha. Hell, if I’m a prospective college quarterback and I see my tight end fighting four guys at once and winning, you don’t even need to send in the female student “tour guides.” I’m signing, coach.
Purdue should be kissing Sigma Nu’s ass right now for helping them sign a legendary quarterback. Wait, Sigma Nu’s suspended for hazing pledges, drinking and doing drugs? Eh. That sounds about right. Going out in the blaze of glory. Gone but never forgotten.
Something tells me there are way, way more stories about Light back at Purdue that Brees isn’t sharing quite yet. That fight at Sig Nu just happened to be the most tame.
