Dude Gets Hammered In Manchester, Wakes Up 500 Miles Away In Paris

Luke Harding, a 19-year-old sheet metal worker from Manchester, England, got blitzed on a few pints at the local pub with his mates, then he decided to cab it home to conclude his evening. Somewhere along the way home, with passport in hand and a subconscious admiration for the Eiffel Tower only brought forth by an elevated BAC, he decided to call an audible at 4am and ask the cabbie to drop him at the Manchester airport instead. The cabbie obliged, and the young lad woke up hours later in a restroom…in another airport…in another country — 500 miles away from home. He purchased a plane ticket for £100 (about $161 USD) on his phone while in the cab.

Harding tweeted this soon after landing: “Walked past the Eiffel Tower 3 times! Not a clue where I am!”

You were in Paris, man, right next to the Eiffel Tower. How could you not know that? He then kept on tweeting, and tweeting, and re-tweeting the many admirers he was gaining who were as excited about his blacked out French getaway as he was. Check his Twitter feed (@LukeHarding1994). The guy is pretty hilarious. He’s turned into somewhat of a local celebrity.

The Manchester bar where he and his buds began their night was called Tokyo’s, or as the locals call it, “Tokes.”

From Daily Star:

Luke, from Oldham, said of the trip: “It all started off just going for a pint after work with one of my mates, one thing lead to another and we decide we are going to go out to Tokyo’s in Oldham.

“It turned out to be just a bog standard night and we started to get a bit bored and decide to call it quits and head off home.

“The only thing was by this time we are well and truly plastered.”

Harding has many more great quotes on Twitter and in the linked article. Dude’s a bloody riot.

Being “I don’t know where I am even though I’m next to the Eiffel Tower” drunk and still managing to convince a cab driver and airport security that you are “a junior doctor heading to a convention” at 4am. TFM

I’m not sure what “Went tokes” means, but I’m going to make it a thing.

One of my history professors is a recovering alcoholic and told me the story of the time he got hammered and passed in Detroit, and then woke up in Rome. He said it was one of the most confusing/badass things that’s ever happened to him and was way better than having to wake up and spend another day in Detroit.

If I ended up in a neighboring country, there’s a good chance it would be mexico and there would be a video sent to my parents from a mexican cartel member asking for ransom money. My parent’s hate when I call asking for some beer money, probably wouldn’t be thrilled being asked by a mexican killer.
