Dude That Jacked Up Price Of AIDS Drug Allegedly Offered Ex $10K To Go Down On Her

Martin Shkreli has caught plenty of heat the past week after he jacked up the price of a commonly used, effective AIDS medication from $13.50 a pill to $750. The 32-year-old then defended himself on Twitter like an angsty teenager of fifteen years ago quoting Eminem’s “The Way I Am.”

Martin from the top rope with a INCREDIBLY topical elbow. Love it. I guarantee his iTunes playlist is chock-full of nothing but Em, Limp Bizkit, Marilyn Manson, and ICP. Juggalos for life, am I right, Marty?

I was all aboard #TeamShkreli as he’s such a cartoonish toolbag that I can’t not root for him. That was until this story caught my attention today, where a woman named Katie — who claims to be his ex-girlfriend — wrote a blog back on Tuesday and accused the pharmaceutical baron of offering her $10,000 to chow down on her box. She included the following Facebook chat from 2009.

I’m out on #TeamShkreli. Absolute psycho move. Hitting up an ex strictly to tongue punch her speedbag is one thing, but to offer her $10K to do so is just on another planet of lunacy. Like I can’t even comprehend that kind of crazy. Seriously, guys get this amped to guest lecture at Oregon State? I just assumed everyone went with the “I’ll get you after you get me” method but never actually follow through once they get their nut. With that said, I’ll just never understand having that kind of money, and the girl here is equally insane. Turning down a power-washing of the ol’ pink curtains and five figures and NOT having to reciprocate seems like a complete no brainer. I don’t care if Hitler offers that deal, you take it every time and queef in his fucking face. Missed opportunity, Katie.

Well that explains why he needed to jack the price up. Dudes probably millions in the hole from years of nonstop cunnilingus

I’m usually all for a guy taking capitalism by the balls but, until I hear a reasonable excuse for indirectly killing millions of people, fuck this guy. Even dickbags like me have standards.

Don’t bail on capitalism so quickly, comrade. I’ll bet my bottom dollar that a similar, competitive pill will be brought to market soon, and at a price more appealing to customers.

Shorter: Capitalism is going to fuck this guy right in the ass. Give it time.

And Ford owns the rights to the Explorer brand, yet we still have Tahoes, Muranos, Range Rovers, etc. All similar, but not the same.

The worst thing that can happen is we demand the government “do something” in a knee-jerk fit of rage. For Christ, haven’t we learned that lesson yet?

The market will find its equilibrium and slap this douchebag right back to reality. It always does. Sure, the Invisible Hand is not a sexy as a Rose Garden signing ceremony, but it’s infinitely more effective.

He actually doesn’t own the patent. It expired. He owns the brand. Problem is the government is so fucking slow at approving new drugs, that the FDA is essentially a protection racket for guys like this. So no, it’s not capitalism, and anyone who says it is doesn’t fucking understand economics, patent law, or drug regulation. Once again, it’s the government that’s the problem.

The funny thing is pure capitalism would have prevented him from doing this.

As it turns out two generic versions of the drug are available 1 is from India and goes for between 5 and 10 cents a pill and the other from GB which goes for 66 cents a pill. Now the geniuses in congress voted down a law in 09 that would have allowed for the importation of these drugs. Of course HillDog didnt mention that little fact.

Would you really trust a “AIDS cure pill” from some sketch location in the middle of India? There are no regulations or safety precautions for that medicine so of course it is illegal, I’m not so sure about the GB one though.

It’s not an AIDS cure pill at all. It’s a drug that fights taxoplasmosis. That’s a parasite that over 60% of people already carry. However, for people without compromised immune systems, it’s harmless. For those with compromised immune systems, like infants, the elderly, and AIDS patients, the parasite can actually hurt you.

There certainly are a lot of guys on this site who know a lot about AIDS drugs…

I’m really glad someone understands the nuances of this and doesn’t just go off of whatever Buzzfeed “I hate capitalism” article they happened to read. Don’t get me wrong, this guy is a huge tool. But this isn’t capitalism’s fault.

If I had that kind of money I would pay my girlfriend 10K for me not to go down on her and her not to bitch about it.

Not to defend the guy but has anyone done any research on the business move? He’s basically giving the pill away at this point while making making money and also creating rivals that will put in research to new drugs. The thing he bought is a 70 year pill that is very harmful to the body.

At this point he is point he is probably isn’t making the decision for business reasons but in fear for his life. I can already see a pissed off HIV positive person sticking with a needle as retribution.

This mother fucker needs to get hit by a fucking bus repeadily. I am all for capitalism but there are fucking limits. Especially when you fuck with people’s health and loves one’s. There is a special place in hell for guys like this.

    To summarize: Fuck this guy.

There was a similar comment to yours that was already addressed, but this is important. It’s easy to call for the government to step in and “do something”, but the truth is that the market will take care of this douche. The price system may not be the most immediately gratifying solution, but it is much more effective. If the new price for the drug is too high, a competitor will offer a similar drug for a lower price, forcing him to lower his price or hit the bricks. The free market is a beautiful thing.
