I might not be quite in the 1%, but instead of picketing I'm working my way into it. TFM.

    1. StayFrattyAlum

Top 1% is actually $250,000/yr in household income. Not exactly the “millionaires and billionaires – top 1 percent” Obama likes to go after.

The funny thing is, none of you pretentious assholes are actually in the top 1%, whether or not your rich daddies and mommies are. And your misplaced hatred for his dedication to actually be there on his own one day just sounds like jealousy to me.

250,000 a year is definitely a millionaire in assets. Millionaire is networth, not income. The point is 613 is right. Even if you’ve got a big trust fund and an even bigger inheritance if you don’t make your own way you’re less of a man for it. If your dad is worth millions turn those fuckers into billions.

Brobert F Kennedy is right. My parents make a combined net income of around what you are talking about and they definitely have millions in assets. Imagine making around $275,000 a year for the past 30 years, and then investing it very wisely.

sc, why do come to this site? You do nothing but be contrarian and holier than thou with your bleeding heart, “superior” crap. I’d like to think you’re nothing but a troll but I honestly think you believe this nonsense you spew.”I choose a different career path that would certainly never take me there”? Are you kidding? Get off your fucking liberal high horse, or cross or whatever and give it a rest.

The fuck are you saying? All I said is that I have picked a career path that would never earn me enough money to be considered 1%. (Unless of course I could morph my career into lecture giving at some point)

Typical liberals. If something isn’t how I want it, it’s your fault.

Historically, Liberals are the ones who wanted no government intervention or regulation of business. Conservatives wanted strong central authority and heavy government regulation. For example, by our standards today John Calhoun was a conservative, for his time he was incredibly liberal.

Another example: During the Revolutionary War people who supported the king were conservatives. The king was supported by the Conservatory party, hence their nickname “tories”

      The more you know.

You’re talking about what we now call “Classic Liberalism.” For example, Richard Posner–one of the most conservative jurists in the world–is a proponent of Classic Liberalism.

Contemporarily, conservatives are in favor of decentralization, i.e. removing governmental intervention. In other words your historical definition means nothing.

While I admire your drive and wish you success in your future endeavors, with all due respect, I must say that this is not a TFM. This is something that everybody in america should be trying to do anyways, regardless of whether your parents are top 1% or bottom 1%. Statistically, my parents are in the top 0.1% (1.5+ mil/year), but that doesn’t mean that I’m not going to work my ass off to get there on my own. There is never a substitute for hard work and no shortcuts to true success.

I’m actually just focusing on spending my parents money, slamming slams, and getting blackout drunk. I know that my Dad will take care of the job situation after I graduate, so I’m really not trying to worry about anything other than the three previous things I mentioned.

Solid TFM. I’m probably top 10% myself and I’m very thankful for what my parents have earned. Each generation of my family has done better for themselves and I look forward to improving my family’s lifestyle by my hardwork.

Apparently my parents are in the top 1%, but we definitely don’t have a ton of disposable income, especially with three of us in college at the same time. I mean, my parents probably pay over 43% a year in taxes once they get through state and federal filing. That’s absurd.

14 years ago at 10:44 am
    1. scbro91

Not really. 60 years ago they would have paid 90%. I think the problem is that we need more Tax Brackets.
